Make sure she takes all prescribed medications on time. Prop her head up and have her wear comfortable clothes like sweats or PJ's. Make sure she changes her gauze in her mouth often and drinks fluids when she feels able. It was hard for me to talk because I couldn't open my mouth very wide. I just wanted to sleep mostly.

What a great sister! Both of my children had theirs taken out and I had to take a day off from work for each event. Take a deep breath as this, too, shall pass. But in the meantime, the advice that the other yamsters gave will do, along with a lot of TLC!!!

Apply cold compresses to the cheeks, give her lots of clear liquids, keep the level of her pain meds consistent (take as directed). Do not use straws or smoke! This may dislodge the clot formed in the socket and the result is even more painful than what she is experiencing now...She'll feel better tomorrow.

Painkillers and rest.
Painkillers generally have to be taken about 4 hours apart. However, if you are using different types of painkillers at different times, then you can have something every 2 hours. I will use generic names below. Talk to your pharmacist.
For example:
2pm - ibuprofen (with codeine if desired)
4pm - paracetamol (with codeine if desired)
6pm - ibuprofen again (with codeine if desired)
8pm - paracetamol again (with codeine if desired) etc
Keep up her fluids and soft foods. The codeine does make some people nauseous, sleepy, or agitated.

There's really not much you can do except make her foods she'll be able to eat...I don't think she's even allowed to use a straw for fear of air pockets.. Just make sure she has her pain meds or Alleve..
