One of my friends made a ham last week, and saved the bone for my dogs. It was big. I just gave them the bone an hour ago. the thing is almost gone. they were outside so some of it might still be out there, It's dark here so maybe I can't see it. Can a dog chew a bone that fast. She's a rott.

thanks everyone. I didn't know if this was normal. she's sleeping like a baby now. It just supprised me at how fast. I usually get bones form the store, but i think this one was better. I will have to make more ham's. OOH, and the lady that said they eat little children can kiss my ***. My rott is the biggest sweatheart that i know. She watches over my baby all the time, lets me know when she wakes up, and cuddles up with us. I would trust that dog with my child's life and mine. Don't be so judgmental. I used to think rotts were mean to then I got one.

Oh ya, the bigger dogs will do that! Totally normal!
I have a rotty myself!
the ham bones are some of the best to give them, because it doesn't break apart in shards

I agree with baseballa...bones can be dangerous and become lodged in the intestines or stomach requiring surgery. Be very careful if you feed your dogs bones...you need to know the signs of a blockage. I worked as a vet tech for 12 years and participated in SEVERAL surgeries to remove lodged bones from dogs intestines. We had one dog die (a cocker spaniel given bones by a neighbor) from the blockage before we were able to do the surgery.

I have a rott mix and he has bones gone in no time. I get him the thick thigh bones from the butcher and they last him quite a long time.

Yes they can, Ham bones have a lot of flavor in them so they problablyl sucked it up! Some times if it wasn't dried out it may be soft once you get to the inside, also.

Yes, a rot can eat a big bone very quickly.. I have a Saint Bernard, and it takes him about 20 Min's to eat a very large bone that we get him at the butchers

yes. They eat it fast so that no one will take it away from them. This was the biggest treat given to the dogs.
