If you are planning to move to Canada in May, then you better get to work on getting a visa asap!! You will be lucky to have one by then.
You cannot just pick up and move into Canada without the proper documentation. You will be stopped at the border and denied entry if you try. Once you are denied entry once, it can be more difficult to gain entry in the future.
In order to work in Canada, you will have to have a work visa. You can stay in Canada for up to six months without a visa, but you will not be able to work, have a telephone, utilities, or anything else that requires legal residency.
All the information you need for visa/immigration is found here:

Better get busy, you have a lot to do!

You can be here legally for either 120 or 180 days. You'll have to check. As long as you land back in US in that time, you can return. You would think Immigration between US and Canada should be easy, but it isn't. I'm going through the opposite, immigrating to US through my husband. make sure you have a return ticket, you can always change dates later with the airline.

If you're "moving to Canada", you'd be illegally here if you're just planning to "make it past customs". There are proper procedures you must follow to be legally here. Here is the Canadian government web site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/
Don't become an illegal immigrant, whatever you do!
