This is the sort of question which is so difficult to answer, because it could be three separate questions or just one.

Q1 could be:

Is it positive that Europeans have settled in the UK?

Q2 could be:

Is it positive that many Christians have entered the UK?

Q3 could be:

Is it positive that educated people have entered the UK?

My view is that all three of the above are quite positive, but when all three are combined, it is something much more meaningful.

My exposure to this category of people is fairly limited to the Polish students/workers with whom I have come into contact, and I have to say that I have been delighted to have worked with them and met them.

What impresses me is not only how polite they tend to be, but how balanced they seem to be, in spite of the difficulties back home in terms of relative poverty and lack of work opportunities. Energetic, ambitious, optimistic and hard-working they certainly are, but in addition, they are friendly, good natured, disciplined and seem to have a genuine respect for English people and the English way of life.

I'm sure there are a few negatives as well; not least a large increase in homeless people and additional burdens on healthcare and social-services provision, but I feel sure that these are far outweighed by the positives.

I sincerely hope that unscrupulous business people do not exploit them as cheap labour, but sadly, we have seen examples of this already. That is in no-one's interests.

I'm a white, educated, European Christian and I choose to live in a country which is predominantly Muslim. Some of my neighbours don't like this, at least until they get to know me better, luckily they are sensible, intelligent, and kind enough to forgive my inadequacies and we usually get on fine. Pity it isn't reciprocated in your neighbourhood.

Colour, religion and ethnicity mean nothing. Try to get to know your neighbours, maybe you can help them to acclimatise, as mine have helped me. You might even end up liking them, Until you know them, how are you in a position to judge?

Man, I was educated in Europe for a while, but only cause I'm PART British. Can you say PART?? That does still make me a PART of America. And I'm not Christian, I'm agnostic.
