Sounds like mange... or a flea alergy.... If it's along the back near the rump, it's a flea alergy. If it's random spots, it's mange. The old farmers trick for curing mange is to rub USED motor oil (not the synthetic stuff - the old fashion stuff like quaker state (10W 40 or SAE 30.... ). The oil helps the skin heal and the sulfer kills the mange parasite. You put it on and leave it on for at least a week.... Keep it away from things you don't want to get oiled up, like the side of your house. The vet also has more expensive, but less messy treatments.

it probably had fleas or an infected area where the vet had to shave off the part to clean it well just incase take her dog to the vet so she get get all her shots heartworm, borderella, ext. and ask the vet what shots she needs then wash your dog every month (too much bathing can give dogs alegeries, and dry their skin) with shampoo especially for killing fleas, and ticks because that way if fleas are causing those bald spots you can kill the fleas if you see your dog getting more bald spots then take her to the vet to have a check up and too give you medicine to kill the fleas hope i helped :-)

It is possible. Or she could have had fleas or infected bites: A few weeks ago my mother's beagle got those, and the vet had to shave around the areas to treat those.

It is possible, also another possibility is that she may have had fleas, or an abscess that they wanted to keep clean. I commend you on adopting rather than buying from a puppy mill.

It could be possible that someone had tried to shave your dog entirely but your dog struggled to get free!

It probably had a "hot spot". Hot spots are caused by fleas.

Maybe she was badly matted, and they had to remove the matted hair.
