I find it rather perplexing your core belief is that we essentially came from nothing, yet, please entertain me and tell me how, exactly how, do you get something from nothing? Doesn't this go against your most important core value, science. In fact, this defies science, does it not? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't science need a cause and effect? Can you name me anything in the universe that does not?
I wonder about your core belief, I wonder how you use science as a crutch and evolution as a crutch to somehow prove your deep construed thesis' that justifies there's no God, yet you don't realize the core essence of your belief is based on evolving from nothing. I don't mean to come off the wrong way, I just want an answer.

I believe there are many things in this universe that I will never understand. I believe that man's ability or inability to understand the concept of god is equally baffling. however I do believe that organized religion is the worlds worst enemy. I divides and alienates us from each other. I am tired of the hypocrisy. I believe the concept god is in each one of us just as is the innate knowledge of right and wrong. Those that feel seperate from the world search for something to give their lives meaning while those that feel complete don't need to search because they have all they need-themselves.
just my opinion

We don't know how everything started. That doesn't mean that there is a god. Many religions in the world don't posit a creator, they just believe that everything has always been here. So don't think that having a religion means an answer to where it all came from.
Science is still seeking the answer and I think it would be a shame to jsut stop now because it's difficult. Where would we be if doctors stopped trying to find out what causes infection 500 years ago?
I don't use evolution to "prove" there is no god and many xians believe in evolution. I find it to be one piece of evidence among many that shows ME that there is no need for a "god" to explain everything. Evolution doesn't even touch on the origins of the universe btw, simply how life evolved. It doesn't even touch on how life started. It's like asking a geologist to explain the big bang. He doesn't care, he just cares how the earth formed.
Seriously, if science just stopped... and said '"well it's been a long time and we don't have the answer yet.. I guess we should just give up and read our bibles" Where would we be? What if that had happened 1,000 years ago? When our average lifespan was 40? What if it had happened 200 years ago? What about 60 years ago? We hadn't even decided on plate tectonics 60 years ago! We would have given up on explaining earthquakes. Do you understand how that really doesn't help anybody?

I do not claim to be an athiest . But I would tell you that no atheist says that the universe came out of nothing . they ateists are rational and more scientific in their approach than theists whose approach is only blind belief and irrationality . the So-called athiests are very scientific and the theists who have the strong and sure upport of the great fountain of knowldege should nvr be afraid of answering any and every question that any body might ask about god and and the belief of any man.god is not an ignoramus. The ateists beligve in the/big bang theory and eveolution . they know tht nothing can be created out of nothingand anythng can be made of somehng only . It is the theists only who beliefe that the univers has been created out of nothing by /god an by word the world was created . let one pope or one priest who is faith full to the /god create a small piece of stone b wor of mouth and prove it , People lkiving in glass houses can ot throw stones at people living in stone houses .Try to provide an answer to any question and any doubt that the atheist can raise ansd d not curse them and threaten them of having committed any sin by asking questioins and thinking rationally . Gods way ar unscientific . the theists who do not use their brian might nt be able to understsnd the ways of God . Just because of hteir own folly they are not to think the atheists as fools . God is not a business man to enter into any contract or agreement wih his creation which is nothing more than a dust forgod . God won't be doing tit for tat like an urchin tooDo not degarde / defile God while pretending to be worshipping God .

You need to stop reading the bible and spend some time at a university. Your argument / statement is very dumb. You are saying that science requires a cause and effect - That we (humans) are an effect and that we don't know that the cause of "us" is - And that since we don't know what the cause is we should conclude that the "cause" is god. That is the same way that primitive people thought when they looked at the moon, didn't know what it was, and decided that since they couldn't understand it the moon must be some kind of god. Nothing you say supports attributing your "effect" (us) to your "cause" (god), you just argue that we don't know, so it must be god. The fact that some causes exist is not proof or even support of the suggestion that God is the cause.

I would say that your God is also the dump yard of the all unsolvable questions anyhow without giving proof. If whatever happen in this life has no reasons but just God's will and must consider it the best things (death or deaf or blind or ....) and have to wait for God's will again, it is nothing better than atheist who decided to prepare to be strong enough to accept the natural facts of a life. He can survive also whatever he believe is based on nature which you call it "nothing".
P.S. I m not an atheist.

Where does it say anywhere that atheists say we came from nothing? I assume I came from the matter and energies of the universe, by processes that took billions of years.
It is you religionists who seem to have the perplexing view. You believe in a God vast enough to make the universe, and then you don't even notice the scope and wonder of the universe. I guess by reducing the vastness of it all to some simple and understandable metaphor like God you are protected from the realization of this mind opening infinitude.
Personally I believe that if you were a theist of any depth whatsoever you would come up with more intelligent observations about the belief systems of others.
Try reading a little philosophy.

I'm a strong Christian, but I thought I might give this a try from what I have learned. I believe that atheists follow the big bang theory to explain the creation of the universe as well ast the fact that our existence is the result of a meteor hitting earth and spreading bacteria that evolved over many, many years into various species including humans.

We don't KNOW. Science admits to that. But religion, oh, it KNOWS. Yeah, right.
Also, if you add up all the positive energy of the universe and all the negative energy, guess what -- you get ZERO.
I think about the fabric of spacetime and quantum potential. Quantum weirdness IS strange. We don't understand it but we sure use quantum physics as a tool. Otherwise you wouldn't have the luxury of sitting at a computer or watching TV, to name just a few inventions that benefited from the science of quantum physics.
Atheists don't have to believe in anything. Apparently, belief is a requirement for "believers." Science evolves, religion stagnates. If you would rather sit in a scum pond than a free-flowing river, that's your choice. But your cause-and-effect argument is spurious. Couldn't the same thing be said about god?

I find the answers you've gotten so far to be interesting.
Seems to me that most atheists are simply defending their beliefs, not answering your question at all.
To me, anyway, the point is, atheism is a belief system. Whether they call it a lack of belief in any god, or a belief that there is no god, it is a belief system, and as such, it is a religion.
Whether they like it or not, they have a religion, and, by golly, they intend to try to get as many people as they can to believe in it with them.......

The Big Bang theory doesn't say everything from nothing, it's more that all matter was incredibly condensed, and blew outwards. The recent theory suggests the were an infinite number of universes, which expand and contract, and the contraction has so much energy that it blows it all out again.
