Are silicon oven mitts better than the thick cloth ones at protecting you from heat but allowing you to safely (and comfortably) grip pan handles and handleless pots?

My husband bought me a silicon mitt a few months ago. I had been hesitant to buy one because, I did not think I would like it. I didn't think it would work either. My husband bought me the mitt with the extra finger space on it not the one that looks like a big mitten. I do like it and not only do I use it to cook with indoors but, it is also great to use when bbqing! I sent you the link to the mitt I am talking about also just in case I did not explain it well enough.

I've never tried silicone. The BEST oven mitt I've used was asbestos. I could pick up my cast iron pots and pans with no heat transfer.

YES they are the best. Also the flat silicone pot holders are great to keep your pans from sliding while stirring something on the counter

Silicon mitts protect your hands from heat much better than cloth, but they are more cumbersome and make your hands sweaty.

We've even used our oven mits when camping to move logs off the fire. Works great when you're trying to develop good coals to cook on the campfire or roast marshmallows. I would certainly recomend them -- they can withstand anything I've put them to so far.

yes because it takes alot more heat to feel it in the mitts, it takes more heat than the cloth ones

I don't know if they are better, but they do work. I prefer a cloth one, but if it's at all wet, you can get a nasty steam burn. Silicone wont' do that.
