My 15 yearold called after school saying he would be late because he had to do some school project but he would pick me up something to eat on the way home. I told him it was cool as long as he got back before his mother came home from her fulltime job. About 2 and a half hours later I see him trying to get in through the back I asked him what was up and he was very evasive. But when I got a look at him in the light I could see that he was somewhat sweaty (like he had dried himself off) and his shirt around his pits was darker then the rest) He also had Vans on but they looked like sneakers. Before I can question him any further he goes in his backpack and pulls out a pack of krispy kreme all the while all his gym stuff falls out(water, headband, Ipod) It was then that I understood the full scope of his dishonesty first he lured me into giving permission by bribing me with food and he thought that I would not notice What is good and proper punishment for lying and disrespect?

I told me to give me the doughnuts and that he was grounded for a month for lying and he could only go straight home after school. I dont want him going to the gym because I dont want him to turn into a jock/meathead who could challenge me

Did it ever occur to you that he might have an ulterior motive? He could be trying to meet girls. At 15 he doesn't really think through his decisions and may have thought this would be a good place to meet (and impress) people of the opposite gender. You need to sit him down and discuss other options and places for meeting girls.

Maybe there is more to his going to the gym than you think. It is bad that he lied, but before you over act I think it would be a good idea to talk to him about why he lied and why he went there. If he asked permission to go to the gym would you have said no??
If he wants to be healthier - that is wonderful!
Why don't you sit down with him and talk about what he wants and come up with a plan or routine so he can do that and you can be okay with it because you are obviously uncomfortable.
About the lying - 1st figure out why he lied and solve that problem, 2nd make yourself available so he doesn't feel he has to lie, and 3rd let him know NOW what will happen if he lies again so he doesn't do it, he may have the best ideas of what would stop him so you could even ask him about that. Maybe take away his Ipod or something like that for a week?
good luck to both of you

I think you are going a little overboard. What is wrong with him going to the gym to work out? Yes, I agree he should not have lied to you, but isn't it better that he be at a gym doing something healthy than at the street corner or mall smoking pot or doing drugs or drinking? Why would you worry about him becoming a jock? Why would you think he would raise a hand to you or his mother? Maybe you ought to re-think your ideas of working out and come to some sort of compromise after your punishment for lying has been served.

okay, i read this twice and i think i get it now.... you, being the father, are discouraging your son from trying to go to a gym to exercise and be healthy, and are taking krispy creme donuts from him (which were supposed to be a bribe) which you will surely eat; not throw away. am i right so far? then, you are seeking advice, as a krispy creme donut eater, on how to punish your son for not wanting to end up like a fat slob?
this question cant possibly be real...unless maybe your son lies to you about the gym because he is embarrassed of talking about exercise in front of someone who would fall for any excuse for an ordinary donut.
im not being mean. im being wholeheartedly serious...theres something wrong with this picture or there is more going on than what you are telling...

Is that truly a healthy motivation for punishing your son? You say this is about lying and disrespect, and yet it really seems like a question of power. Is it possible there are some underlying issues that you need to address?

i wager it relies upon on the way you outline betrayal. some human beings would say it consists of habit like marital infidelity, spreading malicious lies about them or promoting them out to thieve their pastime. Others would imagine that you betrayed them in case you do not believe them 100% of the time on each undertaking or count number. i keep in mind that sounds severe, yet there are those who're so self-absorbed that they see the international like that. Oddly sufficient, i imagine they are those maximum likely to do the betraying. i imagine that the damage and tear is genuine and it really is somewhat important to heal ourselves. The worst is responsible ourselves for being the sufferers. We ought to regain our shallowness and integrity. the first step is to locate the flexibility to set barriers with abusers and to get help elsewhere. After the betrayal and abuse has stopped, you would favor to analyze why it surpassed off. it really is possibly a effect of the abuser being abused earlier you entered into the relationship with her or him. in case you could income some understanding, you could enable flow of the dislike. It would not advise that you're going to open your self as a lot as extra damage from that man or woman. it really is somewhat hard at the same time as this happens with an important different or close pal. in case you could enable flow of the dislike, you could get better.

Got his Vans on but they looked like sneakers! LOL! Well to punish him, I would not let him have any of the pizza that night! Keep all twelve boxes of Domino's to yourself and make him eat veggies or something!

I'd make him eat 6 extra donuts and a dozen extra twinkies every day for a year. And wash it down with chocolate milk, at least a quart each time. Make sure he gets lots of Soda and take away his Ipod, he might get the urge to move with the music, and we all know how bad excercise is...

It's obvious what your problem is, your fat, so if there is someone slightly skinny in your family you'll freak and realize how fat you are, trust me, i go through the same thing. Don't punish your son for wanting to be healthy and not have to have clogged arteries all his damn life, if you cared about him , you'd be FORCING him to go to the gym women! Not stopping him!
