Below is the recipe from Chef Rick Bayless for the best margarita I have ever had. If you can't open the link, go to www.fronterakitchens.com and click on recipes, and then on Drinks and then on Easy Old-Fashioned Margarita. I have had his margarita at Frontera Grill and it has only three ingredients. I understand these margaritas are authentic.

Here is how I make my Margaritas. In a blender combine one small can of limeade, then fill can with tequila, add ice to liquid level. I know the liquid rises as the ice is added, blend on high until smooth, this is a Margarita. Run a sliced lime around the rim of glass and salt if plain. I really hope that you like this.

My friends love my margaritas! Always on the rocks for me.

First, use a lime wedge around the rim of a hurricane glass, then dip in margarita salt. (a lime wedge works better than water because its stickier!) Put in ice then add:
1 oz. Jose Cuervo
1 oz. Triple Sec
Fill 3/4 way with sour mix
Splash of Sprite
Splash of lime juice

Give a swift stir and add a lime wedge!

Make mine a jumbo: 6 oz. Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix, 2 oz. Jose Cuervo Gold, 1/2 oz. Triple Sec. Fill large glass with ice. Pour in the ingredients and enjoy. Salted rim is optional.

When preparing a Margarita you only need to know three things: Salt/No Salt; what style and which ingredients.

Ingredients

The basic recipe includes: 1 1/2 oz tequila, 1 1/2 oz sweet & sour mix ( or 3/4 oz fresh lime juice mixed with 3/4 oz simple syrup) and 1/2 oz orange-flavored liqueur.

In The Original Guide To Margaritas and Tequila, author Robert Plotkin suggests two additions: a splash of orange juice and 1/2 oz Rose's sweetened lime juice. When mixing at home, orange juice is the perfect fix for a too-tart cocktail and the sweetened lime juice adds another dimension of citrus fruit flavor.

Tequila, a product made from Mexico's blue agave plant, is the centerpiece of this cocktail. For a list of some exceptional tequila, check out our Tequila Tasting results. The truest to the blue agave flavor is the silver, un-aged tequila which we recommend for all Margaritas.

The most commonly used orange-flavored liqueur is triple sec. Cointreau, Grand Marnier and Blue Curacao follow closely behind. Patron's Citronge is specifically designed for making Margaritas. There are also many nonalcoholic citrus flavored modifying mixes, such as Rose's Tiple Sec, which are perfectly acceptable to use.

Style

Straight Up: Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker. Shake 20-30 times then strain into chilled martini or margarita glass. Garnish with lime wheel For Margarita

On The Rocks: Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker and strain into martini or margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Frozen Combine ingredients in blender with 1 cup of ice. Pour into glass and serve with lime wedge.

Salt Rim

Many people find that a salt rim enhances the flavor of the cocktail. To salt glasses, rub the rim of the glass with lime or lemon then gently dip into saucer laced with kosher salt. This must be performed to the glass before it is filled with ice or cocktail.

It depends..... I make mine frozen. I put a can of Bacardi (the stuff you buy at the grocery store) and some fresh strawberries and ice (two or three cans of ice). I blend that until smooth. I rim my glasses with sugar add Tequila and mix it all up and pour it in the glass!! ENJOY!

First, take a bowl.
Next, sample the tequila, to make sure it is just right.
Repeat Step One.
Repeat Step Two.
Continue in this fashion until you are sure you are just right.
