if you've had the cold for more than 3 days, you probably aren't contagious, anymore. Take a good decongestant that won't make you sleepy, about 1 hour before the dance. It should dry you up a lot. If you just got the cold, do everyone and yourself a big favor & stay home. There'll be other Homecomings - try to be brave about missing it. Life happens!

make sure that you don't have really dry air (like having the AC on does) when you sleep, and sleeping on your back or semi-side helps clear your sinus some *sooo much easier to breathe when you sleep if you get a stuffy nose*
as for the cold/cough go to bed early and drink some hot tea, i've heard that honey/lemon helps and/or mint tea. take some cough syrup if needed...
if you have a bad cough i recommend skipping it, better not to be miserable and spreading the cold as you cough on everyone, but if it's minor or if you feel better tommorw go ahead.

Take Vitamin C supplements now and take some Robitussin to stop your cough for a few hours. Drinking tea, sweetenend with honey usually does the trick too! Hope you'll feel better!

I like dayquil because it tends to calm the cough. The problem is that most of the OTC cough medications don't work well because the dosage is not high enough. The conference of chest physicians really hate expectorants. If you buy an OTC drug, make sure it does not have both a cough suppressant and expectorant in it because they cancel each other out.

Take some cold medicine.. but make sure it isn't the kind that's gonna make you drowsy... drink plenty of hot tea with lemon and honey in it, and try and get as much sleep as you possibly can... You won't be cured, but you'll feel well enough to go.

You might want to take some cold medicine before the dance. Then you would feel better for the time being.
