It's more than likely not worms. He probablly just needs his anal glands expressed. The scooting on the floor is a sign of that. Small dogs tend to have this problem and some may have to go every month to get this done. It's basically a glad like a scunk has but we don't really know the reason for dogs having it. And sometimes it can get clogged up with causes irritation. It is easier for large dogs to express them because they have more muscle then small dogs. Get your vet to check it out and if this becomes a constant problem your vet can show you how to do it if you are comfortable then you won't have to take him in everytime he needs them expressed. It's kinda smelly though.

Usually when they scoot there butt on the floor, it means there anal glands need to be expressed. This is common in small breeds. If he's scooting alot take him to the vet the vet can tell how full the glands are and will express them. The vet does it different than a groomer. The vet will get all the gunk out and if their infected he will give you a antibiotic and have you come back in about a month to check him out. It can get so bad it can abcess and the abcess can rupture, so please go to the vet and have him check it out and to be on the safe side take a stool sample with you to rule out worms, but I bet its the anal glands.

All the previous answers are good and I agree with the ones that say it could be a tick, itchy, or it might be poop. Give him a bath and check out his back side, if you don't see anything then give him a couple of days if he continues then take him to the vet. One time my cousin gave her shi tzu a bath and she didn't rinse her good enough and she started doing the same thing. Well after taking her to the vet they had to shave her back side I cant remember what its called but its from not getting all the soap out of her coat. Hope all these answers help! ~Good Luck~

Be more concerned with what your dog has...sounds like he is suffering from worms and/or other parasites. Both can irritate a dog when they leave his/her system via the anus. Take the pup to the vet; don't forget to bring a "fresh" poo sample collected within the last 24 hours. Good luck!

my dogs used to try this. do not situation, the vet instructed me that according to probability the dogs even nonetheless it itchy, or she would desire to be scrubbin the floor as a heady scent, the scratching and dragging would be that the dogs has slightly poo on the butt or would think of it has some thing on it rather is butt like according to probability she/he hates fur on her/his butt. do not situation, yet whilst your dogs is scratching everywhere tell the veto or word of fleas or a rash. desire that helps, solid success!

This is usually a sign of worms. Take your dog to get properly checked by a vet. He will need to be dewormed, and this can be followed up at home on a regular basis.

Sounds like anal glands need cleaned. Mine goes to vet tomorrow for this. This is really quite common. When he does this, is there ever an offensive odor? I'd get him to the vet...my vet cleans them out for about $10.00 and doesn't charge an office call. Probably uncomfortable for the little guy...if this is what it is. Good luck!

He either has worms or needs his anal glands expressed- this is a little known problem in small dogs. Get him a vet appointment, bring a fecal sample with you, and they can determine which it is and treat him for it.
