the reference is 'if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain,'move over there''
It is an illustration that means, we will be able to say to the mountain-like obstcles in our lives, move out of the way, and they will.
The fact is this, the obstacle in my life was drug dependancy, and by listening to the scripture at 1 Cor 25:33, it was easy to remove this previously mountain-like obstacle in my life!

"Surely I tell you, if you have the faith of a mustard seed you can tell this mountain to go, and it will be cast into the sea." This is a parable about having true faith to overcome great problems, it doesn't take much faith to deal with problems, it has nothing to do with getting saved. As for the getting saved part. Your preacher is a nut, When you have it in your heart a real belief and acceptance that the Lord is your Savior, then ask Him to take control of your life, you will get baptized by the holy spirit. This sounds allot like the foolishness of the baptists and Pentecostals. John the Baptist put it quite clearly, "I baptize you with water, but there is one who comes to baptize with fire and spirit." So this doctrine of demanding you have to be baptized with water is a lie, or else Jesus lied to the thief on the cross.

Actually you need both but if you have the faith, you will want to be baptized and get the Holy Ghost. but to get Him you do not have to do a lot of what some churches tell you. Read the bible for yourself and then decide what is right and what is not by the bible. As it says in Isaiah 8:20, to the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this Word, there is no light in them. check out the site below to get some good bible based studies to see if you are being taught the truth.

It is the faith of a mustard seed. If you have the faith of a mustard seed you could say to the mountain move and it would move. Have you ever seen a mustard seed, it is so small. Imagine having that much faith. We could walk on water.
When you accept Jesus as your Savior, you receive the Holy Spirit. Repent of your sins. Baptism-full immersion in water. Baptism is to show that you want to follow Jesus. As He was baptized, so should you be.

the bible refence you are speaking of is, if you had the faith of a mustard seed you could move mountains. be careful about the "recieve the Holy Ghost", if you are refering to speaking in tongues, it isnt necesary these days since we have interpreters and most people speak english. they did it back at pentecost because not everyone spoke the same language. there are biblical requirements for doing this, i have never know these churches to follow them. if you would like more info just mail me

Don't know what church you recently joined, however I have been in several different churches. Not all believe the same.
1) Believe on the Son of God. That Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, and only through him can you come to the Father (God). Believe that he gave his life for you on the cross, that he died for you that all your sins may be forgiven. John 3:16
1a) Repent - repent your sins and confess by mouth that you are a sinner and confess your sins. repent and do your best not to sin again. However since we all have a sinful nature we have redemption through the Son of God's blood that was shed for us (you and me). Christ, Jesus, Son of man, Son of God (known by many names) died on the cross to make us whole.
2) Be Baptised by water. Even Jesus was baptised by his cousin John the Baptist in water. Looked upon by some as a new birth.
3) Recieve the Holy Ghost. Also called baptisim of the Holy Ghost.
Now you may hear the term Born again Christian. You have experienced a rebirth during baptisim of water and of the Holy Spirit.

Here's a link that will explain it to you.

Basically if you receive the Holy Spirit you have been saved because you've been "born again", that is given new life and made a new creation as a daughter of God.
John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:3 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

Just remember that those are the things you have to do to be saved in YOUR church.
I go to a mainstream Christian church - and those are NOT requirements for our church.
Every church/denomination/religion has its own set of rules and regs. From the way your question is worded, it sounds as if your church requires all three of you. Only you know if you are willing/capable of living up to them.

#1 MUSTARD SEED FAITH IS TO MOVE MOUNTAINS.
that is if you believe ,even if your faith is small, God will do it.
#2 RULES ?
Believe on the lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.
If you will confess with your mouth ,
believe in your heart, that God has raised Him from the dead,
thou shall be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
