Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

~John Lennon

The writer of that song suffered from supreme arrogance and angered a lot of people in the Sixties by claiming that his group, The Beatles, was better known than Jesus Christ. Here was a poorly educated, callow youth thinking that he was top dog, just because he was a talented singer! He later took refuge in a mysterious cult religion and in the use of drugs in an attempt to find happiness and satisfaction. How can you say that this man had the answers? But he'll certainly have some questions to face before Almighty God, if he has not done so already.

No, the song isn't "spiritual" it's philosophical and if it had any spiritual inspiration it was from a deceptive spirit that was teaching people that they don't need God or Jesus in order to be good.

Colossians 2:6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

That song posits the notion that if everyone just tried really hard to be a good person then the world would be a better place. We would all be like brothers and sisters sharing everything and living in harmony. The Bible says that unless a person is born again they can't break free from sin or the world system that causes people to do just the opposite of what John wrote.

Its a lovely song. Probably never quite achivable.

I am always disturbed by the heaven comment .. but in so many religions if there is a heaven then many believe that there must hell (not necessairly needed) and demigogs to tell us these things and to tell us not to live for today and to put down the believers and call crusade/jihad on the unbelievers.

If John's dream happened, it would be a heaven on earth.

I love the song, Girl Wonder. It is absolutely the way I wish this world could be. In fact, I posed a question last week about what type of world would we like to wake up to....best answer went to the person who posted that song. A lot of people think that way. If only we could live it.

John Lennon was one of the most peaceful, loving and intelligent people I have ever known of. That song is, of course, as spiritual as he was and it's beautiful. It's a fine dream, but, sadly, in this world and country we live in today, it's still a dream that's for the distant future. I truly believe we are headed for a dark period where knowledge is ignorance, war is peace and freedom is slavery.

I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and I have never listened to it without crying, because it represents soemthing that is an ideal, but will probably never exist. John Lennon was a true genius.

I think it would have had more weight to it if John himself weren't such a hypocritical jerk.
What the fk kind of person abandons a small child never to even talk to him or see him for YEARS??? then only see him a handful of times, just so he can shoot up heroin with some ugly Jap witch who he was cheating on his wife with!!
I love John, I love the Beatles, I feel really sorry for Julian and Cyn and Paul too. You know, he managed to severly let down everyone who ever truly cared about him in the end. He followed a **** who turned him into kind of an idiot and who really did nothing for him except for successfully leading him right down the road to his ultimate demise!

The sentiment in the song is nice......
not very practical, but nice.

people just don't get that song. it isn't about lennons notions of world peace, peace would happen if that song became a reality yes, but the song is about everyone being classed as equal, no racism, everybody being treated the same, no black or white hatred.

and possibly about a good l.s.d. trip

Hmmm, I believe that this is some of John Lennon's doggerel verse.

In simple terms - "Back to the Trees".
