Don't look any of this up on the internet. I just want to take a poll on what you really know.

I was having a conversation recently that most people really don't understand the difference between "trans fats" and regular fats in food........Do you REALLY understand the difference?

I'm not too sure but I think that trans fats are the bad fats that clog your arteries, they come from hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated stuff in foods. Not sure how other fats affect us, I know that it's important to have some fats in one's diet but when I'm trying to lose weight I can't imagine why!

I don't really understand the difference and I don't think many people would. I would guess it has to do with the way in which the body handles the fats, and that trans fats are probably either synthesized or highly concentrated versions of real fats(a la high fructose corn syrup). Either way they're not good for you if you consume too much, but just like everything else unhealthy for a person isn't too bad in small doses(say-eating one fast-food value meal once a month when the rest of your diet is free of trans-fats).

Not really, I think most people think that fat is fat and that all fats are bad. Although I dont know the differences between the two I would imagine the trans fat is bad and the regular is good considering alot of products now advertise 0 trans fat.

I think most of the population would know what FATS are but only a small portions would know what TRANS FATS are and how they differ.

Do I know the difference? Not well enough to explain it!

I think an average person would have needed help to just read the question much less be able to tell you the difference. I don't think I really understand the difference; although, I know examples of them.

To be quite honest with you, I thought I knew what it was--- bad! Then I took College Biology last semester and found out at an elemental/atomic level what it really is and really loathed it. It's funny, because I don't think many people REALLY know what it is or why it's bad for you... Sometimes following the crowd is good!

I do you find regular fat at Burger King and trans fat on a greyhound bus.

Only if the average person took Organic Chemistry (or Biochemistry), and wasn't absent that day.

I do know the difference. I think most people, even very well educated people, don't, which is quite unfortunate.
