If you're looking for a BIG dog, I'd say Saint Bernard. They're super people orientated(my neighbour had both a dog like this, and 2 small kids, and it worked out great). Sadly though, they don't live as long as other dogs, I think up to about 8 years, and pooper scooping becomes quite a hefty task. Labs are also great pets, but shed a lot. I guess there will be certain downfalls with any new animal family member...

Oh my, if there were a best kind of big dog,
what would we do with all the other ones?
This is really a matter of choice and the kind of life style you have.
I prefer German Shepherds. They are smart, protective, good with children, and beautiful.

Labradors are the four wheeler all purpose do pretty much anything happy go lucky jack of all trade kind of dog. You can't go wrong with a lab.

I think that american pitbull terriers are the best kind of dogs all around. cause their not to small not to big and they are very intellegent very beautiful dogs. And u can get them in almost any color u want.

TO ANYONE WHO SAYS GREATDANES YOU ROCK!!!! I OWN 2 AND THEY ARE THE BOMB!!! lol....i show them and im only 15...i have gotten a title on my puppy when she was 11 months...i am top 4 in the united states with a high obedience score!!shows how smart they are..

my bf has a great dane and i LOVE it!!! i have a yellow lab, and she is soooo sweet. she loves people and is very affectionate. and she loves swimming. labs are awesome. no small dogs here. yuck. in my opinion, small dogs have no soul, they just yap and get in the way. ewwwww.
