Let's say that our taxes pay chaplains in the military, because they do, and these guys sell religion? What does this mean?

chaplains preach young men into fighting a war by telling them that they go straight to heaven. So actually they work for the government. Probably more effectively than anyone else.
It is a job and they get paid for it. What about electric preachers [men who preach on TV] None earn less than several million a year.

no, because i believe in the separation of church and state. so what the state uses my tax money for i really do not care. it could just as easily be paying for the road repairs and many other things that need done.

furthermore Military chaplains are trained to minister to many different faiths and to respect the faiths. they even have a small handbook on Wicca and Paganism..funny that the military recognizes this however the VA will not allow the Pentacle on veterans gravestones.

unless that pentacle is upside down and called the
Congressional Medal Of Honor.

Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars! No, conflict here. My church doesn't sell anything. All of their spiritual gifts and brotherhood is free. The government however does a lot with the money they receive from me.....I can drive anywhere in this country on beautifully paved roads. I can visit thousands of National parks for next to nothing. I can dial three digits on my phone and get emergency personnel at my house in five minutes.

I see some validity in your point. To be technical, it is combining church and State to some degree. But aren't chaplains basically counselors? I know they employ chaplains/counselors of different religions and backgrounds, and you're supposed to be able to choose which denomination of chaplain you want to talk to during grief, right? I think it's more about damage control and to assess the mental/emotional condition of our troops in crises. I'm all about the fight for separation of Church and State, but I don't think I want to take this one on. In the scheme of things, it seems a lot smaller than someone watching their buddy get blown to bits. Whatever helps, in the eyes troop in need: That's what I want to pay for.

I fully agree with you and the government needs to stop that. Religion promotes war. We are at war to end the war or because of religion.

We should give that money to the areas of our country that need it. Religion is not one of them.

As Jesus said pay back to Caesar what is Caesar's, taxes cover many services good & bad. That's why we pay taxes. Should religion condone and support war - NO. Still have to pay taxes.
