what does the aerator do on a boat?

I think that it woud be in the live well of a fishing boat. It keeps oxygen in the water so the fish stay alive.

it puts air in the live well to keep fish alive much like the small air pump on home fish tanks.

It keeps your fish alive in the live well, same as it would in a fish tank/aquarium

circulates water in the livewell to keep oxygen in the water for your fish. it keeps um alive. ;~)
