I will assume that the movie to be viewed is a child's movie for example, "Cars" "Monster House", etc. and if so then it's okay. I would be concerned about the child falling asleep and the money wasted for a ticket. Also, if this is the only time your g/f can take her child due to a conflicting work schedule---then I would have to say in this case her actions are appropriate.

No, this is not a good idea. A child that young should be ready for a bedtime story and a good night's sleep. Parenting skills don't come naturally but it helps to have a good friend who can give a little useful advice once in a while, if approached in the right manner. Remember, the "how" is just as important as the "what" when speaking with someone about their parental decisions. Try to handle this without appearing judgemental.

They have no school tomorrow so they can sleep in. It is great to have bonding time. A night out here and there won't hurt. I was out with my toddlers at a couple of bar-b-ques this summer past 8pm. All they got out of it was fun time with mommy and daddy- lots of smiles were shared and that is great. If the 5 year old is always out this late and especially on school nights- then that is a bad thing. But a special night out will make that 5 year old feel like one lucky kid and that is great.

No because a 5 years old should be in bed at that time, and if you take the child to the movies that late, then the should gonna think that he or she could do anything they want to. like stay up all night because they went to the movies after 8pm. take the child to the movies at around 12pm and 2pm

Not at all appropriate, the patrons and the managment wouldnt find it permissable. In addition, the child would be lacking in a good nights rest even if it's a onetime deal. Doesn't sound like a fit thing to do at all.

YES!!!! Couold be a very special event for the young one.....why not, I have at two weeks..though when they hit 2 and 3 and 4 it is matinee time......if it is a movie that one would enjoy...a five year old, then why not? Perhaps a nap in the aftrnoon is only what is needed...I would do it all over again!
Cheers!

If it were a G rated movie, then maybe, but that's a little late for a 5 year old to be out.

It depends on what the child's bedtime is. My four year old doesn't usually go to sleep untill 10 or 11 so it wouldn't be a big dael to her. But if the child's bedtime is at 8, then she will have a tired cranky kid and won't be able to enjoy the movie. And the kid will probably fall asleep!

If it's something that is done rarely, it should be fine. Just wouldn't make a habit of it. Sure hope the kid had a nap today. My 5 yr old can't keep his eyes open past 9 without a nap.
