If your hair is already damaged, it may not work out too good if you highlight it. If you decide to, it should definitely be done by a professional. And before having it done, I would use a deep conditioner every day for a week before if you decide to do it.

Well since you have dark brown hair, if you dye it blonde it will most likely turn an orangy-red color, not blonde. In order to get the blonde, you would probably have to bleach it and then use toner, so that would make your hair even more damaged. But if you really want this look, go for it. Just use daily shampoo/conditioner designed for colored/damaged hair, and do regular hot oil treatments.

Of course it matters if you want to keep the hair that you now have. Your first priority is the health of your hair so you should consult w/ a professional. They will probably give you a deep conditioning treatment and recommend darker steaks applied w/ a gentle, non-damaging formula such as a rinse. Damaged hair will not grow, it will simply split and frizz. If possible, stay away from all chemicals for a while so that your hair has a chance to rest.

Whatever you do, make sure you consult a professional. On top of your hair being damaged, you may have red pigments in your hair that you don't really see, since it is so dark. If you use an at home color, you run the risk of orange hilights. I would suggest consulting a professional also for the fact that they can use different products that are less damaging than the OTC boxes...

you should do an oil treatment if your concidering this. You should also get some really good conditioner like aussie deep conditioning. The blonde may make your hear really dry and break if its damaged already. But of course the smartest and healthiest thing for your hair would be to wait and trim all the bad spots before you dye it.

Your best bet is to ask a professional. My hair was damaged and with blonde highlights it is in better condition now than before. So it does pay to have a pro do it. Best wishes.

If your hair is really dark, blonde will be damaging because you'll have to highlight it several times to get it to blonde. It will turn orange first. And if your hair is damaged it is harder to grow back, at least it will take a lot longer.

yes it does...you need to treat your hair with a serum of some kind...only a professional salon can provide. The other way to treat your hair on your own(for about a month before you decide to dye it) is saturate it with olive oil once per week. Wrap a towel or use a shower cap while you let it soak in for about an hour. Rinse with lukewarm/cool water--never hot! Natural brunette hair is different than natural blondes...we need more nurishment!

Id let it grow more for awhile till you can get the damage cut off. When the damage is gone, Id highlight it then.

If you dont wait, youll just have more damage, and then youll really have a problem.

If you have dark brown hair, forget being blonde. It does not look good, it is too damaging to your hair and too expensive to keep up. Get lighter brown or chestnut highlights instead.
