I've always thought that when dealing with emotionally triggering topics, that the use of non-emotive terminology was for the best.

Recently it has been brought to my attention that the term homosexual community makes the implication that we are not talking about people.

I've also been told that communities are made up of people.

As always, I reserve the right to change my mind.

I would like some feedback on this issue.

I think this is a relevant question, I would ask you Alberto to not make this into a gaybashing rally. Fear and prejudice are the root causes of violence.

I would also add that it is very unfair to label these people as sexual maniacs. Most pedophiles are heterosexual. It is really a question of power, and not gender identification

I should have used the word "that" rather than "it"
You bring up a good point Superstar DJ, we should be viewed as individuals, and not as a segment of society

Is this a question about your gender preference?

Fact, we are one community. And we are talking about people. Within that community are sub-community; however, a community based on gender preference does not exist. Just like the other preferences do not create a sub-community.

No matter what gender preference we have, we are not divided into "preference" communities. Everyone has a gender preference. Because some of the preferences are forbidden to the Israelites, does not constitute forming a community.

Frankly, this question comes up over and over and over again. We all have gender preferences. We all need to get along. So be comfortable in your own skin, and stop with this nonsense. If someone wants to talk about homosexual community, then ask him/her where is the heterosexual community? And does the bisexual community reside in both?

Depends on the use. I don't think there's anything wrong with saying: "the Irish Community in Boston likes Guinness" -- being Irish myself.

But "the community" really narrows it down to the activists and active participants. Saying "the homosexual community doesn't vote conservative" sort of sums of the mainstream gay community, but certainly excludes a lot of people, I would think. No one likes to be lumped in, as in "the white Texas community believes in X".

I don't think it's dehumanizing at all, just sort-of clinical. people who are gay are gay. People who are white are white... no need to let a professor define who you are.

I am not sure about humanizing or dehumanizing but is is separatist or isolationist. It makes it sound like one of those gated community places or a Ghetto. Russian community, Jewish community, Black community, Chinese community.

Anyway for better or worse anything tagging community and a race or culture tag on front makes me wonder if they have a different legal system as well, It definitely establishes the us or them mind set.

i wouldnt consider dehumanizing, but i just think that homophobic people just need to grow up. there are people we meet everyday and that its sad how some people try to segregate them. i mean reguardless they are human too. they should just leave them alone instead of making it such a big issue. they too are made of the marterials as you and i. they also take in the same things such as oxygen and food. thats all. everyone should be treated equal

Humans love to alienate. They create categories in which to shove others so that they can feel better about themselves by feeling superior to others for no real reason.

Homosexuals, illegals, thieves, sexual maniacs, all is shameful.
