match, the kind they give away in bars.
a pin
some tinfoil.
Separate match from pack.
Lay the pin along the shaft of the match with the point at the head. Hold it there and wrap the tip of the match and the pin together in a small piece of the aluminum foil.
After the foil is rolled tight, carefully withdraw the pin, leaving a "rocket pipe" formed into the aluminum.
Lay the match on the edge of a metal table or something non-burnable. Hold a candle or other heat source under the match head.
Who can make the furthest launch. Experiment, less aluminum foil, less tube, more foil, more weight.
If you were a math wonk, you could calculate the thrust, the weight of fuel burned. wow all kinds of math. i hate math.

a rocket in the simplest terms is an explosion with controlled venting to produce thrust...a bottle rocket has a small amount of gun power producing the explosion...but leave it to the experts unless you want to be called 3-fingers....stick to a 2 litre bottle of diet coke and mentos for a legal experiment in chemical thrust

I just buy Estes rockets, because they're safer. Seriously, dude, I've seen people really screwed up from accidents with propellant. Don't try to manufacture your own explosives- it's illegal anyway.
