This is not an attack question, but I do wonder...it is just that most Atheists I know view the whole religion argument as being as much a waste of their time as endlessly arguing the existence or non-existence of Santa Claws...or endlessly arguing over the existence of UFO's.

I understand that you are not here to prove yourselves right, that you are here to prove others wrong, and many of you do a fine job at that...but do you feel like you are arguing over whether or not Superman is real or just a comic book character?

Is it possible that some of you might be looking for a spiritualist who, against all odds, might just make you raise an eyebrow with some insight you might have overseen?

There was a time when I considered myself an Atheist(Agnostic now), but I could not let go of just simply hoping that there is a nice afterlife of some sort...I don't care for details, but I just feel better hanging on to a little bit of hope.

Do you ever feel that way?

I argue with religious folks because I can…and because I want them to clearly know that their insane version of the afterlife is not the only acceptable version. I want them to know that I can push my beliefs as a form of truth just as forcefully and with an equal amount of authority as they do. And I want them to always KNOW that people like me do exist and there is NOTHING they or their imaginary god can do to stop me from opposing their beliefs as well as presenting my own.

I would love if a theist could "raise my eyebrows". I am all for new information, and I love life changing events.

However discussing or arguing spirituality is not like arguing about superman. Religion is very pervasive in our society and effects all of our lives: even atheists who don't believe are still forced to live based on theist beliefs.

Even though god is just as mythological as every other divinity, it is not without effect, as the repercussions of belief in god are actively effecting our lives.

I once emailed back and forth with a very smart preacher, he wasn't smart because he was a preacher, that was his conviction. He was smart because he had done his homework. That didn't make him right, but he was tough to argue with, because even though I'm not a moron, I don't study the latest data on metals and other chemicals, their age, etc.. However, even though he was very smart and I didn't have a real answer to his logic or 'data', I still knew I was right. So I do not argue in hopes of him being right.

However, if there were a higher being, and they were fair, i.e. didn't send people to hell just because they didn't believe, if they hadn't ever 'heard' (some believe that every being has the chance to 'hear' the 'gospel). But what I mean is that it would be nice if people that were really bad got what was coming to them, and the innocents of this world were truly blessed in the afterlife, especially the ones that died early and didn't get a chance at life.

I never argue with religious folk, I think religions are interesting, but it is just not something that I believe.

When I look in the spirituality section I hope for something besides Christianity; something on Buddhism or Hinduism. When asked, I just give my point of view on specific topics because some people want others points of views, not just their religion.

Religious people attack atheists just as much, even if they have strong morals. It is human nature to defend your beliefs.

I am not here to prove myself right OR believers wrong. I'm here to claim that each one is entitled to their own beliefs, AS LONG AS this does not interfere with other people's rights. Religion (Catholicism) is particularly influential in Argentina, my country. And many general regulations and laws that affect us all, and general customs that we all are expected to observe are based on religious principles. But if there is freedom of religion, each person should be allowed to live a life ENTIRELY INDEPENDENT from religious values (except those that are also legal values). This is my fight. And that's what I'm here for. My discussion is not religious OR spiritual. It's mainly political (in the broadest sense of the term).

I usually answer questions when some hardcore Christian (or Muslim, or whatever) tells me that I'm going to Hell, that HIS religion is the true one, or when he says that creationism is believable. Or when they say things like: "The duty of a Christian is to spread the word of god". No, I don't want you to wake me up in the morning when you ring my door bell to ask me if I have found the ... Usually, I hung up at that point!

But I usually tend to avoid this section because people don't really care about what you say, anyway!

PS: and NO, most atheists are not Christians who are angry, etc. Nature gave us a brain, so please USE it, instead of talking nonsense!

Oh, christ, not again.

Why are believers so desperate to dismiss atheism? What is it that you're so afraid of?

This desperate hope of believers that atheists might be looking for gods is pretty revealing...but it's really getting old.

If I were looking for new insights about religion, do you really think I'd look for it from the kinds of believers who are here? (the "I KNOW there's a god..." types?).

What on earth makes you think that spirituality and religion are the same thing? I'm a Jewish agnostic (chew on that for a while) and I am very spiritual, but not religious. So there!

Not being an argumentative person, I take exception to the fact that you think I am here simply to dispel the myths. That being said, the only reason I am here to get some insight into human nature. Please don't make such generalizations and blanket statements in the future.

I don't.
You are free to believe and worship in any manner you see fit. I will not try to stop you and will argue with those who would
BUT
Will you grant me the same favor? Allow me my lack of faith?

By the way...I have said this over and over

I may be wrong
