I don't think women should expect men to pay automatically, but if you suggest taking a cab, don't expect her to offer to share the fare. If she offers, accept gracefully.
Maybe you should discuss it when you make the suggestion. Like, "Want to split a cab?"

etiquette is to talk about the money part before you get in the cab. IT must be a mutual agreement. SO that a fuss wont be made at the time you leave the cab.

If this is a date, one person can pick up the fare another the next item, like dinner or dessert or tip.

If going to the same destination half of the total fare. And half of the tip.

if a guy is with a woman, i feel he should eat the fare unless she is really insistent about it all. maybe she instead could leave the tip which would be smaller in amount.
