He's still wimpering 15 minutes later.

The dog is being punished and is vaccinated.

Ice will help the pain, give him a little tylenol if the pain doesn't subside soon. And the number one fix is to kiss it.

I would suggest going to the drugstore and buying some topical anesthetic. The pharmacy should be able to recommend a good brand.

By the way, go easy on the dog. Drawn out punishments tend not to work because the dog may not associate the punishment with biting your son. A strong verbal show of your disapproval and possibly a small time of confinement to a dog carrier should be sufficient.

Tylenol will help with the pain, but if it broke the skin he should be seen by the doctor because cat and dog bites get infected very easily(this info from the hospital). My Cocker Spaniel but my son on the finger and the Doctor wanted to see him right away to properly clean it out, he was also put on antibiotics. My dog also had all her shots.

It is probably not the pain that is causing your son to continue wimpering. He probably feels like he has lost a friend. The dog "betrayed" him by biting him. I assume you have already put the pinky on ice. He probably needs more comforting than anything else.

Take the child to a doctor immediately. After washing the area with antibacterial soap, Put ice on it till you get the child to the doctor.
A dog can have teeth that cause infection, or carry an infection and that's why they bite.
Children don't wimper. They cry.

If you ignore both, you could have a child that is really sick. Then you'll be charged with child abuse if you don't get the child help.

Then you'll be sick!

First of all, you are punishing the dog and the dog is clueless as to why...second of all did your son provoke the dog and if so maybe he is serving his just punishment and he needs a little pain so he knows not to do it again.
If it is just a small spot then obviously your son is manipulating you very successfully if you felt it important enough to ask the question.
If you are a wiorking mother and don't spend much time with your child then he has discovered the way to get your attention. Don't be surprised if he works it out so the dog nips him again.

First, put some neosporin on it, so it doesn't get infected. And put a band-aid. And if your son is still whimpering, then give him some Children's Tylenol. Also, give him something that will distract him from it, so he doesn't think about it.

Get rid of that stupid dog. Any dog that bites a child should be put down.

Ice pack and rubbing alcohol. It'll hurt for a few seconds but it definitely works.

the dog shouldn't be punished, it should be put to sleep. do you really want to risk that the next bite won't be little?
