Kittens and cats have a normal body temperature of 100 - 102 degrees F, plus or minus half a degree. To take an accurate temperature, you'll need a lubricated rectal thermometer. It's best if you use a quick-read digital thermometer - it only takes about three seconds. Insert the metal tip just inside and wait until you get a beep.

Kittens can't regulate their body temperature until they're about two weeks of age, so you'll have to keep it with warm water bottles to keep it within normal range.

There's a really great website sponsored by a Humane Society that has a lot of tips about newborn foster care for kittens - you may find it helpful for some of your other questions as they come up. It's: http://www.valleyhumanesociety.org/volunteer/catfoster/

Good luck with your new baby!

It should be about 101 to 102 degrees. Cold is the worst thing on baby animals.

Sorry, I do not know but if he seems overly warm, please take him to the vet. I lost a kitty. He was soooo warm and by the next morning he was HOT. He had leukemia, poor thing. I miss him. Our week together was sweet. He was a Christmas present. Sorry about the sad story, it really was a happy time but just wanting you to end up with a healthy old cat some day! Meow!
