It's probably just an emotional thing, and he/she is trying to make you feel guilty for denying them what they want. It's only 5 more months for the terrible two's, after all. Maybe your little one is just starting early.

Be firm and keep on offering him/her that sippy cup. He/she will eventually get thirsty enough to use it (but maybe not before your heart breaks a few times from hearing them cry). All children grow up. Sometimes we need to help them along, despite their desires.

I once saw a German woman who still breastfed her 5 year old son (who was also still in diapers). There was nothing wrong with this boy except his overprotective mother. Even her doctor was disgusted with her.

Talk to your child's doctor to make sure that he/she is not sick.

Make sure you cuddle more often than you breastfed so that the only thing that is missing is the milk. A big-boy tippy cup of milk while you read a story or other such setup that mimics breastfeeding in closeness and time (but not in appearance or position) may help the baby not feel like he/she has lost contact with you. Little things like dropping a kiss and a hug on your little one whenever you are in arms-reach and lots of time with just the two of you can help with the emotional withdrawal that he/she may feel.
Try taking the baby to the supermarket to choose some interesting new foods to try and other "big" activities that emphasize the baby's personal choice and responsibility.
Good luck

This is totally normal, and it won't last forever. I only breast fed my daughter for 5 months, then she went to a bottle, then at 10 months she "wanted" a tippy-cup so she could be like mommy & Daddy. But from other women I've spoken to, the longer a Mother nurses, the more difficult the transaction to a cup. They said one day it just clicks! Also, my sister said rather than making a big deal out of "not" nursing, she would say things like, "wow, we're "both" big people now! Or, if her child was throwing
a fit, she would say, okay, we'll wait till you're thirsty. Anyway, I hope this helped you . Good luck

When I stopped breastfeeding and went to cows milk I had the same problem. I didn't realize that my son was allergic to milk. He cried all of the time, vomited white curds, and had alot of loose stools and diaper rashes. Once we put him on soy milk the problem was gone. From what I hear, most children have allergies to milk causing the above symptoms, frequent ear infections, and weight loss. Try switching to soy milk but be sure to get a good brand like Silk. Continental 8th is very high in sugar. The vanilla soy is really great tasting. Now our whole family drinks this, I haven't had cows milk in 6 years!

TALK TO YOUR CHILD'S PEDIATRITION !!! Before taking any advice from ANYONE on Yahoo. Your child may have food allergies. Or It's gas and digestion pains. Some times it takes a while for their little systems to get use to other foods. Slowly wean them off of breast milk by still giving it as a drink in a bottle or cup along with the other food. It makes the transition easier on their tummies. Or try mixing the food with a little breastmilk so that they still have the familiar flavor.

Is the child able to eat solid foods? He or she may not be able to digest the foods. If you stopped breast feeding because of biting, perhaps bottle feeding breast milk is the answer.

I would suggest going back to the breast milk for a week and see if the crying stops.

Did you ween the baby off or just go off it cold turkey. If you did the latter you need to let the baby get off of the breast milk in a gradual process a little less at a time.

Because of this problem I ended up breastfeeding my first son one month until before his fourth b-day...and my second son at 2 1/2.... I couldn't stand the crying. The houses in Hawaii are so close to each other... they always sounded like they were being butchered. Thank God it's over...no more for me! Never ever will I be a cow slave again. I hope you find a way.

my son is 2 and i just stopped breastfeeding, he didnt eat or drink anything else (except little water). i have tried everything, until.... i put one of those red chinese pepper sauce from the restaurant on my breast. I only used very little, 2 of my friends suggested this and worked for them as well. he tried sucking like 3 different times, and was very thristy after. the 4th time, he just layed beside me and cried quitly. I closed my eyes and ears, i know its for the both of us. he did not eat anything for the rest of the day (like 14 hours), was crying most of the night. I tried offering my breast that night and he REFUSED. the next day, he was eating like my 5 year old, only i had to puree it, because this is basically his first time eating real food. now, up until now, he picks, plays, holds my breast before going to sleep or when he is scared or in somewhere unrecognized for him. his doctor said that this makes him feel protected and dr. said he will continue to do this for a long long time... (he has a 8 yr old patient that still does it to his mom) good luck, you need to get him of that human milk one day or another. it help me mentally, now i can go out without thinking if he is hungry.
