Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental illness. Depression can be a mental disease, but it can also be a physical ailment if your body's chemicals are unbalanced. A doctor should be able to tell you the difference. You can also do a search on Google or yahoo for mental health and come up with a wealth of information. Below is one site that might help you.

Yes both depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder are mental illness and can be helped.
Sometimes with depression, it's a physical problem, like a chemical imbalance in the brain. From what I understand most depression comes from that.
I'm sure there are a lot of resources for you to check into to give you more complete information.

.. If you aren't sick with depression .. You will be if you continue on in here .. .. This place is a mental illness .. That will probably send you into depression .. .. No but in all seriousness .. Considering you're taking medications for your 'moderate depressive episode' then I would say that 1) yes you do have a mental illness, you are probably sick .. And 2) I'm not sure how serious you're depression is .. I'm no trained psychiatrist, but my own personal opinion is that any sort of depression is serious ..

Actually, it is. It's not as bad as schizophrenia or others, but it's still a mental illness, because it has to do with your mental health. Obsessive compulsive disorder is another mental illness.

OCD and OCBD are considered mental illnesses or disorders, as well as ADD, ADHD, and ODD - mostly the disorders with initials. Depression can be a symptom of many other mental illnesses. It is also listed in the medical diagnostic manuals as a type of mental illness.

Mental Illness sounds so harsh and permanent, doesn't it? Or we visualize hideous patients in hideous old insane asylums. But this is the 21st Century and we've therapists and meds for just about every kind of disorder, ones that people in the past could not identify, improve or even know what was wrong. I prefer to look at it as something that needs to be balanced or tuned up.

Depression is a focal point of the mental health community. Its like a sneeze to a Medical Doctor though, meaning that if you are depressed, there are many many things that can be wrong. Being depressed is a starting point of analysis in the Mental Health community. People with O.C.D. are considered to have treatable condition, but just like depression it can be just one element in a diagnosis. Its best to consult a licensed professional to determine how serious someone exhibiting symptoms of these conditions may be.
