I've tried everything to put on weight. I weigh 6.5 stones and I'm 5'2 tall. I've been to the doctor several times, they've done all the tests possible, and in the end one doctor told me to eat food high in fat. I did for a while & it made no difference. I decided that wasn't exactly healthy. I usually eat pasta, rice, potatoes, fish, and lots of crisps! I eat every couple of hours. I don't know what else I can do.

Ok - firstly, for the past month I've been eating junk food every day, I've also had a baby - she's 20 months now - I walk about 3 - 4 miles everyday just to get to/from the bus stop, and I'm not bragging!!! Skinny is not nice!
And it seems that in Scotland we still weigh ourselves in stones - for those foreigners, my weight is 91 pounds.

Okay I have your problem, and here is some serious answers that I have researched/been told. First of all, still eat healthy, dont stuff yourself silly, and do excercise. High in fat does NOT mean junk! nuts and legumes are high in healthy fats. So is olive oil (try brushing some on crackers and adding cheese and garlic powder and microwave untill cheese melts) Also drink full fat milk

Eat higher calorie fruits and veggies (bananas, carrots, apples basically any fruit and veggie that is not watery.

protein! Eat lean meat, eat peanutbutter, ask your doctor about taking some protein powder, my doc prescribed me some to take, and it actually doesn't taste to bad.

Eat healthy high calorie foods like nuts, legumes, wheat crackers.

Never be plain. Top your toast with maregines made with healthy fats, peanut butter, jelly. add cheese to your scrambled eggs. This will add calories without filling you up. Cook with healthy olive oil and sprinkle it on your saled, add eggs, crackers and other filling stuff to your salads. fill omelets with cheese and veggies. Order creamy soups.

Swich to whole grains, there healthier and more calorie dense. Eat complex carbohydrates, not loads of sugar.

Eat 3 meals and at least 3 snacks.

here are some healthy high calorie snack ideas.

1. plain full fat yogurt and frozen berries blended together and some peanuts mixed, makes a great dip.

2. Cheesy garlic bread made with whole wheat bread.

3.peanut butter on toast with bananas washed down with full fat milk.

4.whole wheat blueberry muffins, or pancakes

5. Pasta!

6. homemade pizza.

Now, If you wanna gain weight but still be healthy do weight training and resistance excercises. Do crunches, and buy hand and ankle weights, and use them. And jump rope too, or swim.remember muscle ways more than fat!

well lucky u sarah. Seriously tho, if yr doctor isn't worried then dont be. U dont say how old u r. But if u r young and clubbing etc, then u will be slim. A lot depends on yr metabolism u sound as tho u may have a fast 1. Don't ever go onto junk food etc, eat healthy is always the right route to go. If u feel healthy then just accept what weight u r. Why do u want to put weight on? Maybe u shld look at why u r not happy with the way u look!

If I had good energy, and felt mostly good, and was not loosing weight .. I would leave well enough alone. Sounds like you have a high metabolism .. and I would not really try to gain weight.

Now if you feel you must....or you really must due to loosing weight...

we can teach you some yummy bad habits.
always put butter and sour cream on your potato.
or a thick rich gravy with butter, milk, chicken or beef fat

always eat the skin ON chicken.
put cheese on your broccoli or Brussels sprouts.

eat potato chips and cheese dip for movie snack.
my favorite is about 16oz Velveeta cheese and 10oz tomato chunks w/ some garlic and onion. mix to taste.

I love buttered dumplings.

Eat well marbled critter (beef, lamb, pork) goat too lean .. but good in a curry sauce

drink a pint of milk with every meal, follow it with a pint juice chaser with every meal.

Drink Egg Nog! w/ or w/o the rum.

always put butter in your grits and on just about any bread product.

I love peach milk and ice cream shakes - and you can add a chocolate bar to them. and maybe some raisins.

trifle, custard, and pies are good. always put whipped cream on top.

always add cream and sugar to your tea
eat with sugary biskets

Always add halfnhalf to your oatmeal .. boil the fruit first.

Also peach dark rum daquires

The protean soy bars are good and are high calorie and dense.
granola bars and peanut butter and marmalaid jelly are fantastic and high energy.

There are some awesome ice-cream and fruit based smoothies that can be made.

Wish I had that problem.
Your right, a diet high in fat is bad for your arteries, over time your cholesterol would skyrocket.
Sound to me like your a (lucky) person with a fast metabolism.

Actually what is the correct weight for your height and age?
That 6.5st at 5"2" doesn't sound too bad, you're quite short.
Are you certain your too thin?

Eat more, exercise less. Eat simple carbs instead of complex ones (white instead of healthy brown). Fill your plate up, and make sure you eat everything on it. Don't forget to always have a pudding afterwards. And eat several snacks between each meal. Treat yourself to a chocolate bar at least once a day. lol ;-)

I sympathise with you, i tried everything to put weight on. I don't want to scare you but unfortunately for me I had a serious illness, are you sure the doctor has done every test possible? what sort of tests did they do? GPs are just general practice, could they not refer you to a nutrition department at your hospital? If you are not happy ask to be refered somewhere. I don't wish to scare you but as it took 8 years for my illness to be diagnosed but please try to get to the bottom of it. Have you any other symptoms?

Good luck and try not to let it get to you for the sake of your young family.

if the doctor has passed you as being healthy, then let nature take its course, weight will come in due course, not knowing your age , i would not worry about it to much , everyone wants to be slim but its not as easy to gain weight as it is to lose it , just eat healthy thats all you can do . i know how you feel .

I was really skinny when I was very young. My metabolism slowed down when I got older - now my weight is perfect. You could try a bodybuilding program. Buy a book.
