Does your dog vomit before or after doing this? I've observed my dog doing it after she gets sick. Normally she would go outside and eat the grass but since we live in a condo and she can't always get outside, she licks the carpet instead. They are trying to settle their tummies by ingesting grass (or hair in this case) which will cause them to vomit out whatever else is in ther bellies that's causing them to be sick.

hey if the dog is just plainly licking the carpet i have no idea, maybe something tastes good in that spot? or maybe it feel goos if smething is stuck to his tongue lol, but i do know thatif it is a young dog and its suckling the carept, it could be missing its mother and its mimicking the act of breast feeding....my dog did the same thing when it was a puppy, you can go to wal mart or any store like that and they have like carpet reppellent stuff, its actually a common problem and just sprinkle it in the carpet after u vacuum, and it has a sharp smell that reppels the dog, and after a few weeks hell avoid that carpet...hope i was a help. i would ask the vet, if it becomes a serious problem

Your dog is doing this because he smells/tastes something he likes in that spot. Have you dropped any food/drink in that spot? If so the dog is probably smelling that and licking it up. Our that spot could be salty and the dog is trying to get the salt. Short answer, the dog likes something right there, either smell or taste. He isn't hurting anything, just let him enjoy hiself. I have 2 cats and they do it to the couch all of the time, just like the taste I guess.

Dogs do that when they feel nauseous, be careful though depending on the carpet they can get hairballs.
