Do you still consider it a lie when someone eventually tells you a small part of the truth????

( I have my own answer, I just wanted to know your opinions, too. )

Yes it is still a lie because the person did not tell you the truth in the beginning... so that is just another lie to cover up the truth. You also stated that eventually only a small part of the truth was reveled... so it was lies covering up the rest of the truth

It obviously depends on what was said and what was left out. I mean saying "Oh, I got together with my friend last night" and leaving out the part where you ate pizza, that's not a big deal. But saying "Sorry, but I kissed another man/woman last night" and leavin out the part where you also slept together, yeah, that's a big deal. It's not really a lie if the part left out doesn't matter at all, cause you're not trying to hide anything. But when the part that is left out is a big deal, that generaly means that the truth given was giving to hide the rest of the story, which then makes it a lie.

It really depends on "IF" the whole truth was too much.
Sometimes we know the "Truth" and don't even have to hear it.

So if someone evades the question and dances around the truth to harm someone then its a bad lie. IF they are trying not to hurt you or someone when its not nesscary, then why worry about it.

FOR EXAMPLE: Ugly Betty Watch it. that's a great example of this question in action.

omitting part of the truth is basically like lying. it depends on what has been left out and how long it took someone to tell you what they "forgot" to mention.

well, what they're not telling you is a lie by omission. if they do tell you the truth, obviously that's the truth.
