I don't understand the question, do mean to have a dog in your parents home or after you leave home?
Age shouldn't matter, get a dog when you are ready for the responsibility. Puppy's take a lot of work with housebreaking and basic obedience. If you want to skip that stuff... adopt an older dog! Shelters are full of loving, adult dogs! There isn't as much work, but they are still a responsibility. Walking, feeding, playing...it's another life to look after.
Do it when you are READY, there isn't a certain age, though as you get older you can handle more responsibility.

it depends on how responsible you are. Will this be your dog that your parents will have you take care of....feed, walk, etc.? Dogs can be great fun...but they can also be a lot of work. Don't forget...they will need vaccinations, and need to go to the vet every so often and this will cost money...are your parents willing to pay for all the vet costs for a new dog. Keep this in mind. If you feel like you can take good care of a dog now, and will be able to handle all the work involved with it, there should be no reason you cannot be a dog owner now.

I am 15 and I just got my own dog, and she was very sick when we got her, so extra care was involved, I had to wake up every 3 hours to feed her, and the vet even took her home, but despite all the stuff I went through I think that getting my puppy made me more responsible. I think that 14 is the perfect age, I actually got my puppy for my birthday. Just when you get the puppy be sure you get the vet does a thorough check so you do not have to go through what I did. But I do think it made me closer to my puppy, because I almost lost her.
