I am not an idiot, so if you are a smartass, please don't respond just for the points. My dog is in heat, and receiving her boyfriend. The problem is, that her son from her last litter thinks he is the king of the mountain, and they are fighting, night and day, 24/7. She will not accept the son, but that aint stopping him from thinking he is top dog.

I am not an irresponsible, back yard breeder. She is a small dog, and usually has only 2 pups, and yes, they have homes before they are even concieved, or else she would be protected during heat.

My question is this: how long will she be receiving her boyfriend, and how much longer before the fighting stops and I can get some sleep? If I try to separate them, they just howl & howl, so the family stays together, I just want them to live in peace. The boys are getting snipped next month and mom will get fixed after babies come. That should ease my pain, don't you think?

I guess that was confusing. To clarify, I have the Mommy (in heat) the Daddy (her boyfriend/husband), one son from the first litter (about a year old, and he's the one fighting with dad) and a son from the last litter (about 5 months old and couldn't care less about the whole thing)

If you do not want the son to bred the mom, put him in a carrier, and put his butt in another room. He is old enough to produce viable sperm and very capable of breeding his mom.
You are in control, they are your pack, you are the Alpha, it is you place to maintain peace and harmony.
You may already be too late with keeping the son from breeding the mom.
You can stop the fighting within a few seconds, the noise may take a bit of hard control to stop.
You state you have pups from two previous letters, you should be experienced enough now to know your female is in heat for 21 days.
The first 7 to 9 days are all about flirting and teasing.
The middle 9th to 15th day are her receptive days, she will accept A N Y male that gets near her back side.
The last 5 to 7 days are her DO NOT TOUCH ME DAYS.
You need to separate the son, if he has already bred her.....just keep your fingers crossed that the puppies will be healthy and normal.
Unless you are a genetic expert and know all about bloodlines, you never bred son to mom or daughter to father.
Even after 15 years I would not attempt it.

it might fix things. if the mom and son are fighting, try to play with them both at the same time so that maybe they can realize that they love each other. maybe the son "knows" something about the boyfriend and is protecting his mom.

You needed to ebb the problem in the first place. Don't let the dogs fight over alpha male status. YOU be the alpha male (even if yo are female). Then if a dog tries to push his weight, when you step in - they'll know whose boss and shut up!

Yeah, I agree... I was going to suggest separating them, but you have already attempted that. I can't think of any other options. Good Luck to you and your pups!

Well, you could think about not leaving her son with her, especially since she's in heat.
Inbreeding can result in therrible deformities.

Well , it sounds like she is really hot. WHen there is only one male left, then they can get it on. In the dog world, even if its her son, I think its ok. Maybe they will get it on.
