I am an Australian and will be attending a wedding of a close friend of mine (but I don't know her husband) in India in January. What is a good gift to give that is culturally appropriate for both?

She and her new husband are both Indians, who have studied in the UK.

Something for their new home together. Go with what you think she would like. Maybe an engraved Silver Bowl or Crystal vase.

I would say money, [exchange some Aussie curancy for Indian when you get there] since you will be traveling, and it will be difficult to pack a present for so long of a trip.
If there is a gift that is uniquely Australian that you can think of, that would be nice, even if it a token, the money being the big present.
For instance if I lived in California, I might bring or send a bottle of local wine, olives, almonds. Check customs in India for their rules before you buy. Maybe a CD of an Australian musical artist.
If you have a joking relationship, bring a jar of Vegamite, gift wrapped, of course..She will never forget your gift!
And since she has lived in your culture, maybe something uniquely British, or something you know she craves, now that she is back home.

Jewellery that suits your budget. Silver, gold or a tiny diamond pendant or a bracelet.
Actually we in India would ideally like some token gift as your going to great lengths by being present at your freind's wedding. Which is in itself a gift and would be much appreciated by all.

Maybe you could dress up in an Indian attire, in a ladies suit or a Lahenga suit or a sari if someone can help you drape it. wonderful gift i think.

You can gift anything of your wish. Make sure that they like it mainly her hubby's family member like it. Buy something from your place that looks good to make a good gift (as you feel) and next "just give it".

Wine glasses or some beautiful baking dishes. People love to eat and drink especially out of something cool.

Yourself.

Gift a gift that is home made. It goes much further than just about anything you can buy.

Well, I don't see why you mentioned your nationality, as it has nothing to do with your friend's or her husband's. And you didn't provide their nationalities, so I can't say what would be a good cultural gift to give them. We need more information.
