Tuesday my 12 wk old beagle puppy was so weak he could barely raise his head. I took him to the vet and he said that Copper was infested with hookworms and roundworms. Copper pooped on the floor at the vet's office, and the vet said it had a 'parvo' smell to it. I decided to treat the worms, and wait to see if he got better. He started walking around, and even carrying his toys around, but he still won't eat. He won't eat any kind of food, but he does drink cold water. He also has diarrhea, but it's not bloody, and he vomits also. He's been passing the worms too. Today's his 4th day of being sick, and I've read online that if a puppy has parvo and lives the first 3-4 days, he'll make it. But, I'm not sure it's parvo, especially since he isn't pooping or vomiting blood of any kind. Any answer will be greatly appreceiated.

Last night the little guy went outside to pee, and when he came in, he was bouncing and jumping and ran 90 mph for the food bowl, so I guess it was the medicine for worms. The vet said it was one of the strongest medicines available, so his poor little belly was probably hurting him. Thanks for all the answers!

If it was parvo, I would think your vet would have put him on anitbiotics and an IV. Parvo also causes a bloody like stool with a very rancid smell to it. Coccidia also has a similar smell, isn't fatale. The worms will also cause your pup to be lethargic. Try giving him nutra cal, its a high caloric supplement, you can find it at Petsmart or Petco, maybe even Walmart. Also try pedialyte to help keep prevent dehydration. Good luck.

I would suggest going to another vet and getting a parvo test. Because if your dog is not eating and he is vommiting the water he drinks he's not sustaining anything. It sounds liek your dog needs to be hospitalized and possibly put on IV fluids. Im shocked that your vet did not do a parvo test on the spot it is a very serious illness..I have seen a dog die after two weeks of having parvo so im not exactly sure that is true. Your vet will need a fresh stool sample for the test. I would recomend you do this fast!!!A 12 week old is not strong enough to fight it off hisself...Hope what i said helps..Good Luck

parvo will dehydrate the pup severely! Check the pups gums and see if they are pink, if they are white he's still got a problem. also check the "skin turgor." you do this by pinching the pups skin on their back and watching if it falls back to place...do it to yourself to see what I'm talking about. if the turgor is delayed the pup is severely dehydrated...pediolyte (spelling) works well as does Gatorade. if the pup will not drink you may have to inject fluids sub-q and the vet will help you with this
