I would suggest if you need a "diet" that you should try a diabetic diet. Go to the ADA website and see what it is. It is the one of the safest, most effective diets there are. Atkins is a diet with quick effects but in the long run you will actually get the opposite. All of that fat clogs your arteries and the complete lack of carbs stresses your organs and body. Eventually it will compensate for the lack. The first carbs you take in, your body stores them in case it is starved of them again and you wind up gaining weight!

Someone told me the guy who came up with the Atkins diet died of a heart attack! I would check into this diet a little more before putting yourself in danger.

don't do it. Any diet that limits whole food groups in unhealthy. What kind of sick diet has you eating tons of meat and says it's healthy. Now I like meat don't get me wrong but in moderation. The only thing you should eat lots of are whole grains, fruits and veggies. Stop restricting yourself from certain food groups is damaging.
Yes i have known dozens of people that lost weight on Atkins and every single one of those people have gained all the weight back and themsome.
Try a sensible diet program like Weight Watchers...that allows you to chose from all food groups but in a sensible manor. I also know a dozen WW users and every single one (myself included) not only lost the weight but has matained keeping it off. After my second baby the weight just melted off after a month of WW.

Please don't do it! It's true, Atkins himself died of a heart attack. It's a very dangerous diet. It puts the emphasis on meat, which our digestive systems did not evolve to digest very well, and limits carbohydrates - and 19% of the carbs you eat are used to fuel your brain. Don't starve your brain!

If you do lose weight, you start to burn muscle as well as fat - and your heart is a muscle. Think about it! The best weight loss program - I know you don't want to hear this - is still a healthy diet and lots of cardio exercise.

The first 2 weeks you limit the amount of carbs that you eat to 20 grams or less. After 2 weeks you increase your carb intake to 30 grams. Then each week you increase by 5 gms of carbs until you stop losing weight, then you back off by 5 gms of carbs.

Gobble down all the meat and fat you can eat, and no sweets. This diet is a killer and disapproved by the medical profession and any who have tried it.
