My doctors office is the same way. I have a hospital that is 10 mins away. The doc office that i deal with work out an hospital that is like 45 min to an 1 hr away. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant. I have already talked it over with my boyfriend. If i go into labor at home then i am going to have to go to the hospital that is close to me. I am going to make sure when i turn 9 months that i have a copy of my medical records just in case. If i don't go into labor close to home, or if the doc decides to send me to the hospital after a visit, then i will go to the hospital that the office works out of. I think once those labor pains start kicking in and they become unbearable u are probably not going to be thinking about anther doc looking at u but wanting to get the baby out.

I drove myself for the first baby's birth and the second. The first was at a hospital over forty minutes away coz of how fun Columbus OH driving is within the city.... The second was about twenty minutes away. I think you'll be fine. Labor takes at least a couple hours for most women. Doctors give good instructions to follow and you will most likely leave far before there is any reason to worry about baby being born anyplace but the hospital. You can always prepare yourself for any possibility, and rest your mind knowing the facts or YOUR particular pregnancy. Try not to listen to others' opinions so much. Some people actually try to scare pregnant women! You'll be fine.

Yes, doctors can only deliver at certain hospitals. And that's not crazy!!! The hospital that I had my daughter at was 30 min. away and if it's your first child you will have plenty of time to get there. You could always get a hotel rm. next to the hospital. That's what my husband and I wished that we would have done so he could have taken a shower and got a little bit of sleep. Plus it's good for family. Like her mom or his parents. I think that's what we are going to do next time!!! Good luck!!!

ummmm that's not FAR I'll be a hour from my hospital and delivering my 3rd!. 1st baby's no need to hurry they take HOURS HOURS to be born my 1st was 36 hours in labor. 20 to 30 mins is a very common average range most women need to be drove to deliver. There won't be a need to get there in 5 mins unless you have a major complication in that case the close ER will see you if you come in the baby's coming out that second in a EMERGENCY you can still go to the nearset hospital SHOULD BE NO REASON YOU CAN'T do a 45 min drive if need be.

I think you have the right to choose where you deliver and who your doctor is. If this is your first pregnancy- you WON'T deliver in 30-40 mins (almost always). so, I think you should be fine going to that hospital.

That is not bad. My sister liked her doctor, and even tho it was the crummiest hospital in town, she still went to it. I was lucky. There is only on hospital in my town, and it is always not 15-20 min away from any were in town. I loved my doctor, he was awesome. Lucky for me tho. I was only in labor for about two hours.

FIRST OF ALL TURN OF YOUR F*CKING CAPS! Now, we can talk...you're not crazy for driving that far...if that's where your ob/gyn is why do people think you're crazy? My hospital is about 35 minutes away..and noone says i'm crazy.
