I personally think that parts of the Old Testament are absolutly dumb. Read these lines taken from Leviticus:

"Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed" 19:19
"Do not wear clothing woven of 2 kinds of materials" 19:19
"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard" 19:27
The whole eleventh and fifteenth chapters of Leviticus.

READ THE 11th and 15th CHAPTERS! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE A CASE SUPPORTING THE OLD TESTAMENT.

What do you think?

First of all... You can't say about the word of God that it's dumb..

The Old Testament is not outdated... but everything is written in it is for us... Everything has its symbol in the New Testament ( example : The Passover which is a symbol for the death of Jesus Christ )...

Make some bible study or ask a bible scholar to know more about these symbols...

"Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed" 19:19

due to ancient hebrews planting two (or more) kinds of crops together which would entangle and ruin the entire field.

"Do not wear clothing woven of 2 kinds of materials" 19:19

this one is a tip on how to make sturdier clothing with the materials the hebrews had at the time.

"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard" 19:27

no reason for this one, the point is just to make a jew look different than a non-jew.

and by the way, old testament religion (judaism) does not believe in hell. thats a christian concept invented to scare people into adopting their religion. judaism is against proselytization to other faiths, ergo we have no need of a hell to scare them with.

This book has been dropped from most modern bibles as ridiculous. IT is used in Jewish culture to base Kosher on, but other than that, the ramblings of a very old, silly man (men). The Old Testament is no more than a simple mind's explanation of how things came to be, a history of a sort to the Jewish faith, and certainly a lot of liberties have been taken along the way. Most of the writings are of stories handed down orally, and of course great exaggerations are inserted into all oral history. Both the Old and New Testaments are books with serious agenda of whoever/whatever was doing the translations....large sections of scrolls are so damaged as to be unreadable..Blanks are filled in with whatever agenda is on the table at the time of the translation.
IT is MAN who says it is the word of god..no more, no less.

The Old Testament is very important, as it gives us some insight into God's character. It shows how people back then related to God, the moral law, the 10 commandments, are in the old testament. Even the so called greatest commandments "The the Lord your God with all your mind soul and stretgh and love your neighbor as yourself", which are often quoted from the New Testament are found in the Old. There are plenty of other quotes and references to the Old Testament that are made in the New Testament. That's just to name a few things about the Old Testament that make it important and show that it is not outdated.

Both versions are equally stupid. So let's get this straight, An All-knowing supreme says "I was only kidding with the first book here's what I really meant". No both versions were not written by God they were by primitive men who were apparently either great comedy writers or insane.

Thelogians try to downplay the Old Testament seeing as how many chapters especially Leviticus Chapter 20 condoned and in some cases outright encouraged slavery and torture.

Well, I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure that the Old Testament was mostly laws for the Jews. But that when Jesus came he said, In The New Testament, that he sort of relieved us from the Old Testament laws. I can't remeber where i read that at. It's in one of the four gospels( Matthew, Mark, Luke or John).

Good question. The New testament speaks of Hell as well. For a reference read through the book of Matthew.

During the old testament no perfect person had come into the world to pay the punishment, so even though though a spotless lamb worked one sin at a time, we needed something permament that would compleatley forgive us of our sins forever. So God sent his son who was compleatley perfect to take the punishment. This does not however compleatley abolish the old testament. The Old testament is there to show us the forgiving charechter of God, as well as what happens when we defy him.

Commands like that were specifically ONLY for the Jews and not true for all people all the time. Knowing the difference between ANCIENT JEWISH LAW and UNIVERSAL LAW doesnt exactly take a Bible scholar. Things like do not murder, rape, torture, steal are true for all people all time. God had certain laws like the ones you mentioned above in order to give the Jews distinction as well as protect their health and their land.

The book of Hebrews says that Jesus took the law, which is the Old Testement and nailed it to his cross, so it was outdated the moment Jesus was nailed to the cross. That is if you are willing to believe what the bible says.

Any Christian who dare says we must follow the Old Testement, just open it up where it tells the type of animals we are to kill in sacrifice to God every years.

According to the New Testement the blood of bulls and goats was not enough to cleans us from sin and that is whay Jesus offered up his body for us. If you are going to believe the bible that is.
