Practically ALL major classical composers wrote works for violin: Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Sarasate, Bruch, Saint-Saens, Elgar, Dvorak, Brahms, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Barber, Lalo, Schumann.

All the great composers that everyone listed plus some more modern ones. John Williams (Shindler's List) and John Corigliano (the Red Violin Caprices.)

most of the composers did recognise the beauty of violin ...and gave special creations for violin ...

Sibelius wrote a great violin sonata in D.
Prokofiev's 1st and 2nd violin concertos are awesome.
My favorite is the violin sonata "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaugh Williams. It brings tears to my eyes.

* Vivaldi (loads of concertos)
* Schumann (underrated concerto!)
* Brahms (concerto)
* Tchaikowsky (concerto)
* Sibelius (the concerto, marvellous!)
* Prokofieff (concertos)
* Shostakovich (concertos, sonata and other works, one of the best composers ever!)

Mozart and Beethoven are the only ones I know which is shocking considering I'm a huge classical music buff.
