And if not, is there a process that will get me similar results to those of a deep fryer.

You can fry things in some oil in a pan. It doesn't have to be completely submerged, just turn them over once in a while. A thermometer will help to make sure it gets hot enough. Be careful with splatter, though. Better done on an electric stove than on a gas one with open flames.....

A medium-sized, deep pot on the stove will do the trick. To test if the oil is hot enough, put in a bread cube and see if it turns quickly to a golden brown without burning. If so, the oil is hot enough to fry almost anything.

You can be fancy and use a thermometer for accurate frying temperature, but the bread cube gives you a good guess-timate.

all of the above, but a deep fryer is sssssssoooooooo worth it. It heats the oil to the perfect temp, and you can put a lid on it & use same oil over & over...

All a deep fryer does is heat up oil. You can do that in any pan. Be careful, though. It can splatter.
