Because God had his reasons to put on the fire at the first place... we don't have to understand these reasons... but it may be for punishment....
John 13:7 "Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter."
1st Corinthians 11:28-31 "28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged."

He has allowed this cursed world to be just that: CURSED. He does miracles here and there for his people, and even allows evil people to live a good life on this earth. But dont be fooled, everything will be balanced out in the end! Your Q assumes this world is all there is!

He's chilled to the bone by the phony devotion given to Him, especially by the hysterical and overly emotional devotees, and needs BIG FIRES to keep Himself warm from the icy wind of phoniness.

Testing us? His will? Free will? (no, that one doesn't fit). Who can know the will of god? Just because - god doesn't need to explain himself. The answer is in the bible if you would just seek it. Give yourself over to his will and you will have all the answers you need.

Jack, in my opinion, God does not get involved with us here. If He did, than innocent children would not be raped and murdered. Right?
