I really hope you're kidding, although the joke isn't funny. If not, I also suggest calling the nearest Humane Society and asking them what's the best thing to do. Doesn't your friend have any nearby aquaintances or friends less that 5 hours away? The whole thing sounds bizarre to me and the others are right--if your friend went on a major trip out of the country and didn't even think about feeding the cat, then he shouldn't own one.

Oooh dear.
In the country, huh? Well, some people will tell you that it will be able to find its own food - but if its used to having regular meals, then it won't have the experience it needs to catch all the food it needs itself. Even if it does manage to catch a few mice each day, that's not nearly enough for it to live on healthily.
You really should feed it - even if it just involves putting a large pile of dry catfood (and water!! You MUST give it water, especially if you feed it dry stuff) every few days will make the difference.
If its in the country, but an indoor cat - WHY THE HECK DO YOU NEED TO ASK!? There's nothing for it to catch in there.

You should drive out there and check on the cat to make sure it's still ok.... if the food bag was out, hopefully he knocked it over and got food. What I'm worried about is water, if the cat didn't have a source of water, he is probably gone.
How irresponsible! I suggest if the cat is still ok, you tell your friend to find it a new home, one where they care enough to feed the cat! The thought of some 'forgetting' to feed a cat makes me absolutely sick. HOW F***ING SELFISH!

if you don't go out there to feed and give the cat water it will be a dead cat when your friend gets back. I have trouble believing that your friend is so irresponsible as the leave on a 2 week vacation without making ANY arrangements for his pet to be cared for while he is away. Maybe your friends needs to find some caring, responsible pet owners when he gets back.

Your friend is a moron. Drive over there and bring the cat home with you. That way you don't have to drive there 3-4 times while he is gone. Then make him drive to your house to get it back. Don't forget the catbox if this is what you do.
Orrr, I suppose you could rip open a 5 lb bag of cat food and leave it on the floor for the cat, then you would only have to make one trip. It would serve your friend right if you didn't clean the cat box...

Feed the furball. Either stay at your friend's house or bring the cat back with you and make your friend come and get it and pay for your gas money.

I am appalled at your friend's behavior and applaud you for wanting to know what to do about it.
An inside cat needs these things on a daily basis:
Food
Water
Litter Box Changed
Love - petting
Since it is a five hour's drive to your friend's home and you obviously cannot make the trek every day, you should do one of two things:
Put the cat in a kennel and charge it up to your friend.
Take the cat to your home and give it the daily essentials

You'r friend is a jurk, go get the cat, take him to you'r home (if its still alive) and find a new home for it before you'r friend gets back. Tell him it died!! Not all cats can feed themselves enough even if they are outside cats. does he live around water? Sounds like a made up question but boy I know there are stupid people out there.

Your friend must have alzheimer or something to forget to do something like this. The cat won't be ok if it's not fed. You should find a way of feeding it. Maybe you should call a neighbor, but your friend could have done it if it was possible I think. Seems like he only has you to do the job.

Take a ride out and feed kitty.
Pet stores can supply you with long-term automatic feeders and waterers. Spring for a set and leave him the bill. (They're really not all that expensive.)
But more than that, the litter box needs changing daily...at the very LEAST every other day. Consider boarding the cat, and make sure you give them your friend's name and number instead of your own.
