That would make you a thief! I highly recommend that you don't do it! The watermark is there to protect the photographer's license on the product.

Assuming all you say is true, there is just no point in it. If they are PROOF photos, then the size and resolution is too low to be of any use except for online. You could not make decent prints. I think your real issue should be with the "company" that no longer has the original files. Why? Any pro company is going to properly archive their client's files. If the proofs are indeed all that remain, you certainly should not be paying a high price for the copyright. Also, unless you have a bona fide legal document showing you as new copyright owner, no one is going to try to remove the watermarks for you. If the watermarking was done right, it will likely take someone with lots of skill a considerable amount of time trying to remove them, and that is not going to come free. You would probably end up paying more to have the watermarks removed, (from basically useless photos), than what you paid for the copyright. I say do business with a better company in the future. steve

The watermark is there because of intellectual property / copyright.

It would be inappropriate to remove the watermark.

Shacona F,

You really should be more careful with your poofs.

Poofs do not like being taken out in the rain (or water) and normally start screaming phrases such as, "Oh my God! She wants to take me out and get my hair wet" or "Who does this Shacona F think she is? I only bought this new blouse last Thursday. If she thinks I'm going out she can forget it!"

Poofs should be sat down in front of an open fire, with a nice glass of gin and given some knitting to do. This way you will keep your poof happy fpr . . . . . . . . . OH, sorry . . . . . PROOFS!

use the clone tool in photoshop version 6 or above or the gimp to "copy" another part of the image over the watermark.
