I think the question of why people don't do more to be engaged in the world in general, and their country's governance specifically, is a complicated one.
First of all, many people have many things going on in their lives, and they may struggle to juggle everything that they're doing as it is, and they may be unsure of how to best spend the little free time that they have. Other people may just be overwhelmed with helplessness and may not know the best ways to actually affect change. One man or woman on their own can make a difference, but it's exceedingly difficult and you have to know what you're doing. You have to be smart, educated, on top of your game, and politically savvy. And if you want to be socially engaged as a group, you have to know how to find groups that fit your model of social change- and that can be difficult.
I wonder, if you were to ask the average citizen in this country: "If you felt dissatisfied about the direction this country is headed, or are concerned about issues such as poverty, corruption, civil liberty erosions, etc, what would you do to create change?" if the average person would even have an answer, or whether their answer would be effective. I think a lot of people, if they knew how, would try to be more politically active and more socially engaged, but they may be confused by the wealth of choices and conflicts out there and be unsure how best to serve.
And even though it is a poor excuse, many people ( I was once one of them) may be apathetic because they may feel that the great amount of work and efforts they would spend trying to achieve their goal would be far overpowered by the established powers of the political world, and they may not want to spend the effort in vain.
But i agree that if people are going to whine about things not going the way they want them to, then they are required to do everything within their power to improve things themselves as well.

because its alot easier to say something than to do it and only few throughout history have stood up and actually done something but it doesnt make everyone else bad it just makes people who deserve it, like Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln or Flornence Nightingale, go down in history as heroes.

Who insists?
Not I. I keep telling people it is time for a real revolution, but will they listen?
No point in me standing on a one-chair barricade all on me own.
