We have just painted our masterbedroom and from the ceiling I have rattan type hanging lamp from Ikea. The cord is a horrible black and looks terrible againt the bamboo coloured wall. Can I paint the cord the same colour as the wall with leftover paint? Should I attatch the cord down the seam of the wall(s)?? Help.

Re-wire the lamp with a neutral color cord. Don't paint it. It is easy to re-wire.

I just answered a similar Q the other day.

I offer this,,,even if it takes some effort or subing the job out.

Pick a neutral color for a fabric, probably one that will either coordinate or "vanish" in its surroundings. Measure the cord, cut a strip of the fabric as long as the cord. Sew it into a "sleeve" for the cord,,,especially if it "swags" anywhere, and slip it over the cord.

You might also make faux sleeves, that don't cover anything just for the sake of balance and harmony that can work well with the rattan.

With regard to it running down a wall. It will be least obvious and obnoxious if you take the cord into a corner, and run it down,,,even if you have to use and extension cord. You can still apply the use of the coordinating fabric sleeve.

Don't paint it, the paint will chip off and look cheap sooner than later.

The best (looking) way to fix your problem would be to but some cord from Home Depot/Lowes that is more of a neutral color and rewire it.

However, if you want a quick fix, tack the wire to the wall and paint over it. Or you can get a U shaped wire cover that can be nailed over the whole length of the cord. Then you can paint over the cover... and it won't look cheap or crappy.

Good luck!

I agree with pretty much everyone else... easier to rewire and painting it isnt all that great of an idea.... another option is to wire it through the ceiling and put it on a remote so you seen no wires at all.. at the photography studio I work at everything is wired to remote. and is the best convenience ever...

If your husband wasn't such an idiot, you could get him to put a new cord on it any color you want. But that would require that he use a screwdriver and a knife.
