And if so, have you tried one? Would you recommend a specific brand? Can I find them at drugstores or do I need to hit up a beauty supply store?

You may get some at your local beauty supply store. Ask for a "relaxer." Brush it on with a colour brush from the roots to the tips (use gloves) and let it process for about 25 minutes. Rinse well and condition hair. There are three types: light, medium, and resistant depending on the type of hair to be straighten.
Have fun.
