My fiance has never been able to wear a ring on his wedding ring finger, as he was born with an kind of an odd shaped knuckle, making it impossible for a ring to slide on his finger. A friend of mine mentioned there is a type of ring called a "clamp" also known as a "shank". Has anyone ever heard of this? Or have any information on it? I haven't been able to find any web sites with info.

Here are 2 sites that offers a gallery of pictures of the kind of ring he needs.

They are called lockshank rings.
Type lockshank rings into your search engine and more information and websites will come up for you. They are a brilliant solution to anyone who has arthritis too.

Yes, she should absolutely try them on to make sure they fit. Obviously she won't be wearing them around all day long. But it would be stupid to wait until the wedding day to find that the rings don't fit together, because at that point the jeweler may charge you another fee to fix them. When she goes in to pick the ring, she should try it on before she leaves the store or pays for the balance of the ring. If they don't fit together, the jeweler will be responsible for fixing it at no additional cost, and will have it done before the wedding. But if she takes it home and doesn't test it until weeks or months later, you will have no recourse but to recommission the work, which is a waste of time and money. When you pick up your wedding band, you too should try it on to make sure it fits. You're being a little petty here. Trying on a ring for three minutes is not the same as wearing it around for months before the wedding.

Just purchase a ring that fits over the knuckle and have the jeweler install a ring guard. It is a flexible band that fits into the end of the ring, allowing him to put on the ring and take it off but guarding against the ring slipping off when it is on his finger..

I've not heard of one, but my recommendation is to let it be-if he can't were a wedding ring, accept it. Trying to get around the perceived problem by using some other type of ring device might cause your fiance to feel bad about himself and the perceived disability. Dual rings are a more recent practice, used to be only the bride had the wedding ring.

Go to Google and type in Clamp ring or Shank ring and see what you can pull up. Good Luck!

It's basically a ring guard for people with big knuckles. They attach a band to the underside of the ring, and when the ring is iver the knuckle, you clamp it closed. Any jeweler can do it for you.

i sort of know what you are talking about..i used to work at a jewelry store in a small ohio town, and what we called them were adjust-a-shank rings..they were usually put on existing rings that people already had, that maybe they were not able to wear anymore due to broken nuckels or arthritis...they ususally ran about $250 to $350 to add onto a ring..
go to www.allisonscustomjewelry.com and email them to see if they would be able to help you .. i really dont know where else you would find them...
Hope this helps!

Why don't you just go along with him wearing the ring on the other hand??
I mean he'll know he's married.
