They do not use this phrase (act of God) in insurance industry any more. This phrase actually use to be a defense and used by insurance companies so they can avoid to pay the claim and now it is no longer a defense. The word God is not used in insurance.

Acts of God are actually acts of nature, and I think they would be much more appropriately called that as opposed to acts of God. Personally, I doubt God sits up there making lightning strike unsuspecting people's satellite dishes and such.
