Everyone above has it right. Most of us don't have teeth so far apart that the toothbrush bristles will actually hit those in-between surfaces, so the food sits there and the plaque builds up and/or you can get cavities. Floss each tooth in between until it squeaks, then it is clean. Do not just stick the floss up there and pull it out. Wrap it around the fingers, put it between teeth, pull it taut against one tooth and floss to squeak, then pull it against the other tooth and floss. Then move to the next space.
Trust me -- I have so many fillings and crowns now, and a lot of it has to do with no flossing. Also, if stuff gets packed up there under the gum, then you can get periodontal disease and need gum surgery. FLOSS

flossing prevents gum disease. plaque bacteria forms on your teeth and can be removed from brushing regularly. the plaque that forms between the teeth cannot be removed totally by brushing alone. when the plaque does not get removed it causes gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums. the first sign of this is bleeding when brushing and flossing and red and swollen gums. if left untreated you could evenutally have periodontal problems and have early loss of teeth. this can occur because the plaque can migrate onto the root surface of the tooth and harden into calculus. this is known as subgingival calculus and must be removed by a more extensive cleaning. bottom line, if you want to keep your teeth you must floss once a day. it does not matter if it's before of after brushing and can be done at any time of the day...even while watching tv.

You're supposed to floss once a day everyday, regardless of if you have anything stuck in your teeth. This is a way of preventing gum disease. And it's better to floss before brushing so you can clean away any bacteria when you brush.

Your suppose to floss before you brush at lest two times a day.
Every time you eat you get food between your teeth weather you know it or not. Talk to your Dentist for more advice about flossing he will tell you what you need to know. By the way you should see the Dentist at lest twice a year.

You should floos at least 2 times a day, or specially after eating, flossing prevents the plaque build up and cavities, plus, there is a lot of bacteria in your mouth that you are feeding when you don't clean your teeth properly.

The point of flossing is to prevent plaque build up where the toothbrush can't reach.....so just like you brush everyday you should floss everyday.
