I don't know what Pentecostals believe. But I assume it's a religion where people are doing their best to serve God. I have nothing against that.
My guess is that there is a lot of misinformation about Pentecostals and that some people are judging your religion based on rumors. I know what that's like. It happens to people of my religion too.

I'm not speaking of all Pentecostal churches, but the ones I've seen on TV are rather scary. People jumping up and down in the isle and circling the preacher and yelling, screaming, how can anyone hear a thing. That said, I have been to some Pentecostal churches which are not at all like that and I enjoyed my visit there. I'm not against the Pentecostal faith at all. All faiths have some churches and people who attend them that are scary. So it is definitely not just pentecostal. Blessings to you.

No Pentecostals are not bad.
But you bring up a point that all Pentecostals need to face. The original Pentecostal event brought 5000 people into the church, and into faith in Christ. What people call Pentecostal events today divides the "Church" and drives people away from Christ.
"Tongues" on the day of Pentecost let men speak and understand each other in their native tongue or language. "Tongues" as it is expressed in modern Pentecostalism is exactly the opposite, and doesn’t allow the speaker to be understood by all. Many times not even by one, as the scripture dictates.
So I guess people are against Pentecostals, because they can be a huge stumbling block for those searching for truth in Christ.
God Bless,
Robert

I know a few Pentecostals. They are nice people. We have agreed to disagree when it comes to the differing points of our religious doctrine, and it doesn't get in the way of our friendship.
The problem I have with the Pentecostal faith is that of speaking in tongues. I believe the gift of tongues to be a real language and that the person speaking it learns in a very quick time frame. They are then able to converse with people in their native tongue and be understood.
As I understand it, Pentecostals believe that speaking in tongues can only be understood by God and by someone who has the gift of interpretation of tongues, and that no one on earth speaks the language they are speaking. That basically it's some verbal sounds and that the Holy Spirit tells those who understand it what those sounds mean.
I don't know much more about the Pentecostal faith than that.

Don't take any offense to this, because I am sure that it doesn't apply to you, but all the pentecostals I know are huge hypocrits. I mean sure that's with any religion, but in this case we are talking about the pentecostals. The pentecostals that I know are out here getting drunk, have sex before marriage thats resulting in child rearage, doing drugs ect ect. I am sorry that a few people that choose to do stupid things, ruin that name for everyone.

I don't know any Pentecostals that are bad. I don't understand why tongues is needed if we all speak the same language but if it brings someone closer to Christ.. then OK go for it.. The only thing that bugs me about them is when they say that I am not a true christian because I don't speak in tongues. I am more gifted in teaching and apologetics.. Isn't teaching a gift of the spirit.. It is listed as one... Jim

Negative press. I am pentecostal and have many friends who are not. I do not handle snakes- that is in my opinion tempting the Lord.
All Pentecostals believe is almost the same that others of the Christian faith believe- we just know that the Holy Spirit speaks to us and empowers us. And no one has ever told me what to wear and not what to wear or to cut my hair or let it loose.
I wear make up- and Gasp- drink when I want. I also listen to other types of music- don't scream when I am praying.
I believe in Jesus as the Son of God- God the Father and the Holy Spirit.
I believe Jesus went to the cross & was raised 3 days later & 50 days after the resurrection- he ascended into Heaven.
now what part of my beliefs are "odd" or "crazy"?

Hello,
I am Charasmatic Roman Catholic so I am familiar with both churches.
There are those who just don't believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
There is also concern (valid, I believe) particularly in the speaking in tongues.
In 1 Corinthians 14:28 it states that only 1 or two should speak in tongues and that if there is no one to interperate than they should pray silently.
See, you can't be 100% sure otherwise that what you are speaking in another tongue is actual praise to God or praise of the devil.
I have seen several miracles performed as a result of prayer, intercession and laying on of hands so I know it works.
I too want to be on fire for God rather than cold or luke warm as is warned about in Revelations 4.

Theologically, most Pentecostal denominations are aligned with Evangelicalism in that they emphasize the reliability of the Bible and the need for the transformation of an individual's life with faith in Jesus. Most Pentecostals also adhere to the doctrine of Biblical inerrancy. This means they are obliged to firmly believe that all non-Pentecostal Christians, all Jews, all Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Baha'ai, Zoroastrians, etc.etc.etc are going to HELL for ALL ETERNITY.
Most people who are not "true pentecostals" are consequently inclined to think "true pentecostals" are overflowing with sh*t.
What say you?

unless a 'pentecostal' is speaking in an actual coherent language, they are not a true 'pentecostal.
Gibberish, and falling to the floor are not acts of Pentecost.
They are acts of impersonators, pretending to be full of holy spirit.
The real Pentecost of the Bible said that those full of holy spirit went into the streets of Jerusalem, speaking the good news in the languages of those in Israel to observe the Jewish Holiday of Pentecost.
Falling to the floor and uttering unintelligable nonsense is not the mark of holy spirit, it is the mark of those that are imposters!
