Breakfast - high fibre cereal with skim milk, fruit and cup of tea
Lunch - some kind of wrap - often chicken Caesar wrap with very little dressing.
Snack - fruit or fat free yogurt, diet pop for a treat once in a while, glass of milk
Dinner - Great big salad with grilled meat or sometimes some brown rice or whole wheat pasta instread of the salad. On those days, I try to have salad for lunch. I make my own dressing using olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and bit of sugar.
Snack - popcorn or fruit or yogurt, glass of milk.
That's my typical day but anytime I go out for dinner to friends homes, I allow for treats like pizza, pie, ice cream etc. As long as keep to my plan when I am not with friends, then I don't gain but if I want to loose...I need to cut out the treats.
How does this compare to guidelines? Not bad I suppose. The salad I have is so big that it is more like 3 or 4 servings than 1 serving of vegetables (I can eat a lot of salad because it doesn't leave me feeling overly full like pasta or rice etc.). I'm not a really big eater but I do have a sweet tooth...that can get me into trouble. I also take vitamins, calcium, cod liver oil, flax seed oil and minerals every day.
My food plan is based on the Weight Watchers Core plan. I really enjoy it because it allows me enough variety to feel satisfied and not be bored. Hope that answers your question.

My diet over the past two weeks and for past years is as below ,water, decaf coffee, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, oranges, peaches, apples, grapefruit, tomatoes, green beans, tomato paste, broccoli, carrots (raw , cooked and in salad), onions, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cucumbers, peanut butter (natural), roasted almonds, pecans, tuna, salmon, haddock, cod, chicken (no fat no skin), lean ground turkey, eggs, Parmesan cheese, low fat cheddar cheese, yogurt, 1% milk, bran buds, all-bran, oatmeal, raisins, olive oil, garlic, herbs, spices, whole wheat & flax bread and raspberry fruit spread.
I eat less meat then on the USDA guideline but eat 8-12 fruit & vegetables servings, 6-7 cereal/ bread, the same dairy as in the USDA per day,
You can do the comparisons quite easily

MY diet over past 2 weeks has changed. I went on diet last week. I used to use Adkins diet, but too much meat isn't good. so , now I use lots of raw vegs and things with low carb. Some meats, cheese , eggs, and .I enjoy sliceing up bellpepper into strips and put say sardine, or chicken on that with salsa on that with shreeded real cheese on top. another is omlet - just stir up 2 eggs with salt and pour in skillet with a little real butter or cook oil. Add tomato , halapeno peppers chopped, with shreeded cheese chopped onions and garlic chopped. turn over oneside , like makeing a burrrito , then fold other side on top, then flip over to let top side cook then eat. so, far I lost 8 lbs in the last week. also drink plenty of water.

High fiber cereal with non-fat or low-fat milk in the morning with a fruit on the side (like blueberries or an apple, or an orange). Lunch is chicken salad with a sprinkle of nonfat cheese. Snacks are yogurt. Dinner can be salmon with asparagus; chicken again; lean cuisine or Healthy Choice dinner. A dessert low in calories. This sounds ugly and boring but it allows weight loss.

the USDA pyramid bases its diets on eating low fat, healty grains and carbohydrates. then vegetables. lean meat and then sugar and fat sparingly. this has just been updated after being the same for many years.
My typical diet however does not follow the guidlelines as much as i wish i could.

I'm not on a diet. I eat what I like.
I think the USDA provides nutrition guidelines, not diets.
Not sure what to compare.

I eat lots of whole grains and veggies. I avoid milk and yogurt for the most part because they are ALL sugar which spikes blood sugar. I tend to stick to whole foods.
